I visited early on in the life of the mansion and museum- when Christopher Lee was out and about and a presence there. Don't know if that's still the case. Being just inches away from Columbus' desk, standard, religious artifacts, and closets full of original manuscripts was moving, memorable, unique and inspiring. The ball I attended in the mansion was... More

While visiting the State College area, our daughter booked a tour for us of the Boal Mansion and the Columbus Chapel. We're so glad she did! We were AMAZED at the history that is housed in the mansion of this tiny Pennsylvania town. The museum director, Bob Cameron, led our tour, and he infused it with personality, good humor and... Our visit to Boal Mansion was truly delightful! If you are a history buff, do not miss this place! So often when you visit these old mansions, everything inside is a reproduction, roped off so you can't get up close and personal. Not this place! You can even sit on the furniture (unless it's marked fragile). It is just so... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit at the Boal Mansion Museum and Christopher Columbus Chapel. Our tour guide was amazing with the depth of his knowledge. And the artifacts that are in the Columbus Chapel are outstanding. We are so lucky to have this historical site right in our backyard.

This Chapel is an unexpected treasure. The fact that the Columbus family items have been stored and preserved in this little village is truly amazing. If you love history, this is a place to visit.

The mansion is full of furnishings and art that go back to the 18th century. The Boal family had connections back to Christopher Columbus. The Columbus Chapel is a one of a kind item that was brought to this country You must see this unique estate to truly appreciate it.

My wife & I and another couple decided to stop at the Boal Mansion mostly as a "filler" on a trip to State College. We failed to notice on the website that the mansion had closed for already the winter. (So please note "time of year" in your travel plans) However, we found that the director was there doing some... Thank you so much for your kind comments! Please do plan to come back next May 1 when we reopen for the season! Till then we are busy planting hundreds of spring flowering bulbs, trees, and perennials for our new gardens, relocating and expanding exhibits, and completing much needed repairs. Cheers! Based on the information on their website, open Tuesday - Sunday, 1:30 to 5:00, my husband and I drove 1 1/2 hours to this museum for something to do on a Saturday. We got there at 1:30, a few cars in the driveway, but office was locked up, with s sign showing the hours. We waited a few minutes, then... More

Yes, I was so disappointed we couldn't accomodate you for a post season tour. As with many not for profit museums we are dependent upon our many gracious volunteers. The web site in particular needs ongoing attention and we are attempting to find someone with the skills to keep it current. Again, my sincere apology! I hope you will consider... More

I was fascinated by the history of the Boal family. Bob, curator and our tour leader gave a great amount of history. He was very knowledgeable of the family history and is involved in adding many more artifacts to the tour. Interesting to learn more about the earlier periods of inhabitants near Penn State.

In addition to the Christopher Columbus connection the house tour demonstrated so many connections this family has had to American history. It is hard to believe the events they have been involved in, from the founding of Penn State, through European events to modern politics and government service. Truly worth a visit. We plan to go back when in the... More
