The National Watch and Clock Museum was officially opened to the public in 1977 with fewer than 1,000 items. Since that time, the collection has increased to over 12,000 items and the museum has undergone several expansion projects. The latest expansion opened in October 1999 and featured an entirely new and redesigned exhibit space, as well as a new two-story addition. Today, the museum is recognized as the largest and most comprehensive horological collection in North America. The National Watch & Clock Museum is conveniently located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, less than two hours from Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, and Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre.

my husband loves watches and clocks so we had to go when we found out about this place. we drove 2 hrs from new jersey but it was worth it. the building is beautiful and there is a lot to see and do, from ancient time keeping to current fads. The staff was so friendly and informed! Hundreds if not thousands of watches and clocks are on display as well as history on them. One of the docents put on a clock display. The clock was 11 feet tall- all of the mechanics on it were outstanding. I highly recommend it!

They have hundreds of clocks and I think he changes them all manually after and before daylight savings time.

I am in the parking lot of this place right now. I am a watch collector and student of time with over 150 watches and many other time pieces in my collection including even hour glasses. I have been looking forward to coming here for years but couldn't find the time (pun intended). I finally get here and figured 2... More

I saw a sign for the Museum along Route 30 and said "what the heck, let's check it out." I have to give it a WOW. It would have been easy to spend much more time there than we did, since we had to get something to eat and get back on the road, but we did see the whole... More

We have been to this area of PA often and I was looking for something to do other than shopping and eating. The National Watch and Clock Museum was the answer for today. My husband was in no hurry to leave this museum. I would not take small children to visit this museum. But they did offer some activities for... More

Mrs Too and Ben had some time on our hands, time to kill, if you will, between checking out of our motel in Lancaster, and a lunch along I-83 in Etters, Pa. We remembered seeing signs for the National Clock and Watch Museum on U.S. 30. We figured the museum would be an interesting way to kill half an hour... More

have any interest in the history of time keeping, this museum would be a must. It's extraordinary, a hidden gem of a museum, extraordinarily well done with an amazing collection of time keeping devices. It's also large, new and beautifully done offering a conceptual look at time keeping through the ages complete with sound effects. You could easily spend a... More

I would be hard pressed to say that there is a clock or watch not displayed in the collection, which awes visitors to this prestigious museum. The tour begins in the lobby, where visitors can stamp in their arrival by means of a time clock. The history of time is chronicled in a small theater film preservation off the lobby.... More

Something for everyone... even the kids. They have special "to-do's" for the kids and the museum is very well laid out and the descriptions are most educational.
