Cowans Gap State park is a highly underrated place to enjoy nature and tranquility. The lake and camp grounds are other highlights (the lake can get busy during the summer months, so arrive early) but my favorite parts are the numerous trials in the Southern...More

The park boasts a large sandy beach area and larger lawn area to set up your blanket and chairs. Admission is free but bring some cash for inexpensive burger, fries, hot dogs and soft serve ice cream. A cone costs $2. There is an easy...More

Went for a nice cookout with friends and family on an afternoon. A lot of people, but the tables are nicely spaced, so you still have your privacy. Some of us also went fishing. I believe the lake has trout.

Beautiful lake with great views and 11 hiking trails that range from easy to difficult. You do need to pay attention to the condition of bacteria in the water. Park is open every day till sunset.

We spend an evening here in July, they had a bat sighting expedition. We got clickers to count the bats at dusk. Really enjoyed our time

My wife and I are an hour and a half motorcycle ride from Cowans Gap and went there today on an unusually warm late September day. It peaked at 89 today. We enjoyed a casual walk around the lake on the very easy lakeside trail....More
