It is a good place for watching the planes coming out of RNAS Cauldrose. The only trouble is is that it is quite depressing especially for people who lost family or were in WWII as there are high barbed wire fences. I understand fully this is full security but it would be a bit better if it was back a... More

Always a favourite to stop by and watch pilots training whether in helicopters or jets. Don't expect any action over the weekend. Used to be a cafe/tea room in the viewing enclosure but this year we returned to find it gone for more parking space. Free to park with no time limits.

I understand that this is a shadow of its former self. We stopped off here and I was happy with what I saw. Not as busy as I thought but the base was largely on holiday. Saw some aircraft movements though. Very exciting once something does come along. Remember it's in defence of the realm rather than a tourist attraction.

On spotter day (day before air day) They had put up a fence around the viewing area, so parking and spotting was almost impossible! Why not Work together with spotters instead of giving them a hard time?

We visited the area several times in the 1980's, and having a keen interest in aviation always made a point of visiting the RNAS Culdrose Airfield viewing area. In those days the airfield was always busy with a varied array of aircraft, both fixed winged and helicopters, buzzing about. The viewing area had two large car parks, toilets and a... More

in a couple of years but today it seems nothing much happens on a monday morning. That said it is a nice free place to park and picnic on the off chance.

Disappointingly, and unfortunately, the RNAS Culdrose Air Day was a total wash out regards to flying displays. As this was one of those times when the weather was not going to conform to a forecast. For all the planning, preparations and organising was not fully used as hoped. Nevertheless, there were plenty of attractions and amusements to keep folks occupied... More

Stopped here morning after RNAS Culdrose Air Day to see the German Eurofighter Typhoon take off. Good view of runway and 'felt' the take off. Does help to know scheduling and day after Air Day does mean lots will be happening. Viewing area is basically just a small car park, but we didn't need or expect anything else.
