This is important Canadian history. The Block House is an authentic building used to defend Canada from the invading US on the waterways. There are surprising features.

The blockhouse is now a small but fine local museum. We were hosted there by student interns who were very knowledgeable. It gave me a good summation of the Rideau Canal history. Just a shame it was raining. Recommended.

The Merrickvile Blockhouse is situated next to the Rideau canal. It along with a number of other historic spots in Merrickville make for a very satisfying visit to the lovely canal side village.

This looks into 19th century life in a small Canadian village. Many interest artifacts and pieces from the 19th century. Not a lot to see. It will take about an hour.

The blockhouse is one of the last remaining ones on the Rideau Canal. The museum provided an overview of the canal and the purpose of the blockhouse. It also provided some local history that was interesting.

When you visit Merrickville for the first time, a prime attraction has to be a tour of the military blockade next to the locks.
