The north side of the breakwall has the best surf and the south side nearer to the hotels and restaurants is more popular with swimmers. Take a long walk, pick up an icecream or coconut for sale ($5). Be careful of rips in the ocean because of the strength of the currents. Ask lifesavers for help on where's best to... More

Great beach for a walk and to get those tired muscles moving again. Take the pooch with you and have a great morning stroll, You might get lucky and see a whale or two. Don't forget the Hat and the Sunscreen, and some water for you and Rover. And like all good Hitchhikers in this Galaxy, you are going to... More

We walked down Belongil Beach from Elements Of Byron all the way into town. It was approximately a 5km walk but pleasant all the way. Low tide would be best as there is one spot where this walk would be difficult to pass at high tide.

Main beach was uncrowded in October during my visit. As an alternative, you can go to North Belongi Beach which is located to the north of Belongi Beach and you will need a car to get there as it is a few kilometers away. Go west from Byron Bay on Ewingsdale Street and turn right on Bayshore Drive to the... More

Belongil is a great option when choosing a beach in the Byron region. It's clean, dog-friendly and usually not incredibly crowded. I love spending a few hours of the day here.

We went here a couple of times as it was close to where we were staying. We parked down at Kendall St as it always had free spaces. Good to relax on the beach and the water was quite nice and warm (and very wavy when we went), we had lots of fun here. I would recommend this beach for... More

The Southern end of the shoreline is undeveloped and occupied by the Byron Bay Beach Reserve. Dogs are only permitted between the Main Beach car park and Manfred Street, as to protect the Reserve’s plant and animal life, including a colony of rare Little Terns that nest near Belongil Creek! And the Northern end of Belongil Beach is an unofficial... More
