No trail is exceptionally long, and with the exception of Mt Gower, all may be walked unaccompanied. Some are closed for the breeding season but there are always plenty of places to walk.

The trails are well marked and maps are available on the island. The walks are graded. The views from the lookouts are great. Mt Gower is the hardest and can only walked with a guide. We did not attempt it!

Wonderful walking trails around the island - not suitable for older unfit - some of the walks take up to 6 hours with steep climbs up and down the hills.

Lord Howe offers amazing and very beautiful walking. It does not all have to be restricted to the fit. The views are to die for.

Do you need full leather walking boots for Lord Howe Island, or would sturdy walking shoes (not leather) suffice?

Boots would be best but unless climbing Gower or the Goat House. Sneakers would be fine.

Being a small island there'll be changes in the weather within a day. It can shower on & off then be sunny. If it's windy on one side or one end then it will be better on the other side. A spray-jacket is useful. Quoting... More
