Took my son tubing down the Delaware River and was surprised to go around the river bend and have this bridge kind of appear right in front of you. We went over to the shore and walked to the bridge. It has a wonderful history and the experts did a fantastic job rebuilding the superstructure to original specs. What a great experience floating under the bridge. I have experienced going under some pretty famous bridges on some very large vessels, but floating under this one in a tube was just as awesome. And doing it with my 15 year old son was even cooler.

Contrary to one of the earlier reviews, this was NOT built as a test to build the Brooklyn Bridge. This was built as an aqueduct to connect the Pennsylvania and New York sides of the Delaware & Hudson Canal ABOVE the Delaware River. Where the boats used to cross the river in water is now a one lane bridge for cars. You can walk across the river on the portion of the aqueduct used by the mules to pull the boats thru the aqueduct. There is plenty of information describing the aqueduct and great views of the Delaware River from the top of the aqueduct. This is worth a visit.

The bridge has an old time feel to it. When driving across you can’t see any of the river. There is parking on both side of the river to walk out onto the river. Best view is from in the river. You can see bald eagles from the bridge. And a boat launch

This bridge was built to test a design later used to build the brooklyn bridge. Now used for cars, it is an historic site with educational materials. The pristine Delaware River is also there. Excellent location for eagle watching.
