Accessible during the summer; for all intents and purposes closed in winter
Mar. 2021
I visited the boulder field during the summer a few years ago. It was surprisingly cool to see. Five stars for a rare geological site.

I tried to take my sister this month and was disappointed to find the road closed to cars for the winter. We could have hiked into the park along the closed road or along a hiking trail, but that would have taken several hours we didn’t have. Hence, minus one star for the site overall.

A winter no-show
Mar. 2021 • Friends
Was looking forward to seeing this neat geological feature on a trip with my parents, but road conditions in mid-March prevented that. The road to the area was closed due to snow, ice, and mud, chained off. The only option would have been a 9 mile round trip hike through said snow, ice, mud. Just wanted to share in case others were hoping to drive up during the cold months. Ranger mentioned the road might open in April if conditions permitted. There is nothing else to do in the park in the winter besides hike.

Really cool

It may just be a field of boulders, but it is very interesting to witness it, and bouldering around is fun as well.

Literally a field of boulders

This is such a unique and exciting place to visit. My son loved hopping around on rocks and moving around. Have good hiking boots and watch your step. It has all kinds of rocks in different shapes and sizes. There is plenty of parking and free entrance to the entire park. The kids enjoy it!

Drove to the boulders!
Aug. 2020 • Family
We were not up to the 3.5 mile hike to the boulders. So we drove to the access road. It took about 20 minutes through the park but it was worth it to see and walk on the boulders.

Fun to experience
Jul. 2020 • Family
Kids had a lot of fun building rock sculptures, exploring and climbing over the boulders. Need to wear good rubber shoes or sneakers - not Crocs. There is a lone, small tree in the middle that was fun for pictures. There is no shade even under the small tree there. Driving to the parking lot had signage but you need to pay attention because we missed a crucial sign. It is not long to walk from the parking lot - it is right there. Plan to go to Hawks Falls across the way.

Nature's Finest

On our way to Lake Harmony we decided to stop and check Boulder Filed out. It was amazing. Something to see and walk across. It was as a big as 4 football fields. Sneakers are a must. Not pet friendly.

Definitely a site to see and learn about.

A huge field of large stones that formed from ice age and constant expansion and compression. Good to see and imagine saber toothed tigers and wooly mammoths. Also, if you can lots of adventure climbing across the stones.
