The Lancaster Marionette Theatre is one of the few marionette theatres in America, located in Historic Downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Robert Brock, the founder and Artistic Director, keeps this unique art form alive and well. He creates all the marionettes used in HIW productions, writes the scripts and music and performs in his unique one-man style. His humor appeals to children, as well as grown-ups. The John Durang Puppet Museum is open before performances. John Durang was the first puppeteer to be born in the USA. He was born in Lancaster in 1768. Backstage tours are given prior to every performance. The Marionette Theatre welcomes field trip groups. We hope to see you soon at one of our exciting shows. Thanks for visiting!

This was a unique, colorful, creative, awesome performance by Robert Brock and his marionettes. He is so talented - he has traveled the world performing and teaching and learning. We saw "Peter Pan" and he was giving life to all the puppets - their actions and voices, (and he had carved and painted and "made" them). His mother is also... More

Not just for kids. Check out their calendar for the "Grown-Ups" only shows. So much for for a different night out.

This place is a treasure! Our kids, ages 6 and 8, had a blast here, and we grown-ups appreciated the charm and professionalism of the performance. We saw a 35-minute version of The Wizard of Oz, got to meet the puppeteer and learn how the puppets are made, and see the backstage and the small museum, for a minimal price... More

In this world of kids being wrapped up in all sorts of technology, what a delight to take a step back in time and enjoy the simplicity of a tiny theater with minimal stage effects and let the children enjoy and use their imaginations. Robert Brock in charming fashion welcomes young and old alike into his special world of marionettes... More

Very interesting and entertaining for children and adults. Artistic Director does it all...arrive early to visit museum. Inexpensive morning event, then take in the Central Market, and have lunch. Also located next door to oldest candy company in Lancaster....park behind theater for free if there is room in the parking lot.

Visited with 6 year old son and saw the Wizard of Oz show. I loved the puppets Mr Brock made and we enjoyed the show. They keep the show short (35 min). As other reviewers said, recommended for all ages.

I made plans to go see a show after reading great reviews on Trip Advisor. They were right! I had so much fun and enjoyed the entire performance. It's very impressive what Mr. Brock do. If you can, get to the theater early to walk through the museum. If you're lucky, you even get a backstage tour. It is definitely... More

Recently, I had visitors with two young children. We all went to the Marionette Theatre. A marvelous tour with history and excellent descriptions of the marionettes was given prior to the show. Be sure to be there a half hour prior to the actual show-time. The puppet master, Mr. Brock, loves what he does and puts his all into the... More

Great performance of Peter Pan and a backstage tour beforehand how how puppets are made, their history and a bit about the history of the theatre itself.

We have been going to this theatre for years and every show has been great. People of all ages attend the productions, not just children; they are classic stories with universal humor. Highly recommend this !
