About
In short, Liberty Magic is dedicated to elevating the art of magic. On the same block where Harry Houdini mesmerized Pittsburgh crowds in 1916, Liberty Magic is an intimate, speakeasy performance space dedicated to the art of sleight of hand and prestidigitation. With less than 70 seats in four rows, Liberty Magic offers a one-of-a-kind experience that is easy to access and hard to forget.

- Steven LPittsburgh, Pennsylvania1 contributionA perfect combination of execution and performance. The best magicians are performers, they connect and draw you into a narrative, not just show 'tricks'. Liberty Magic consistently has the finest performers available, each with their on distinct connections to the audience. Shoot Ogawa does 'sleight of hand', familiar tricks of parlor magic from rings to handkerchiefs. These props are centuries old but his combination of flawless execution and a comfortable, friendly performance make them thoroughly enjoyable. For anyone who hasn't been to Liberty Magic this would be a perfect show to come and see just how much fun it can be.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten October 10, 2023
- mt2011Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania3 contributionsMr Messado's School of Magic- Outstanding experience! What an amazing experience! We went to Mr Messado's School of Magic and it was indeed magical. The venue was intimate and comfortable. The show was outstanding with words of wisdom interspersed with magic, and plenty of audience participation from both kids and adults. So many great messages for kids in a way that was accessible and so much fun! My children (and husband) were thrilled that they were able to participate. We were able to join Mr Messado and others backstage, and he taught us some of his magic tricks and had a lovely conversation with us. I rarely remember to write reviews, but this was a home run and my kids are inspired!Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten October 23, 2023
- Colleen H1 contributionA magical experience in Pittsburgh.A little gem on Liberty Avenue that both astounded & mesmerized me. No bad seat in the place & the intimacy of the room makes you feel like you’re a part of the action. The Life & Death of Harry Houdini did not disappoint. Both educational & entertaining, Lee Terbosic morphed into Harry Houdini with the ease of well, a masterful magician. I highly recommend both the show & the venue. We need more magic in Pittsburgh!!Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 26, 2023

Mr. Messado performed wonderfully and amazed the children and the adults!! I paid for the vip and it was definitely worth it.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 11, 2023
- Cindy MAllison Park, Pennsylvania6 contributionsI laughed and was also impressed by the tricks! This was my first time at Liberty Magic. The lobby is so interesting and visually stimulating. I am not very interested in magic, but went to the show with a group of friends. We saw the Michael Misko show. He was funny and engaging with the crowd. I highly recommend this show. I laughed a lot and was pleasantly surprised!Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten December 18, 2023
- Steven C1 contributionPerfect night out with family! What an incredible night out with a terrific comedic and magical experience with the family! Truly world-class quality magic act with well curated magic, comfortable seats, and great availability for tickets. Easily accessible being located on liberty Avenue and directly across from a parking garage making it easy to access for anyone. Located near many restaurants as well. This particular event was a BYOB performance. be sure to check for other possible performance opportunities to watch because they change several times a year with act running several weeks at a time. Be sure to purchase VIP seats. The after show time with the magicians is well worth the extra cost.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 30, 2023
- Sharon M1 contributionMagic ShowMy father and I went to see Michael Misko, I laugh in the face of magic. The show was awesome! I have never seen my 88 yo father laugh and truly enjoy himself so much! The show was definitely worthy to see again. I can't wait to go to another show there!Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten January 6, 2024
- Dan R3 contributionsSuper fun night. Loved Michael MiskoWe were first time visitors and found the venue fantastic; especially well suited for close up magic. We saw Michael Misko and loved it. He was a wonderful magician and very funny. We have no idea how he was able to do some of his tricks. There were four in our party and all of plan on coming back. If the other magicians are even half as good as Michael, we will have a great time.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 13, 2024
- Barb K1 contributionEntertained and AmazedWe went to see Derek Hughes in Bag of Tricks with a group of friends. He is very entertaining and kept us amazed and laughing the whole time!! A few of us in our friend group got to be a part of the show which, for us, made it even more entertaining. Thank you to Dan and Brian for keeping us entertained before the show. Dan made one of our friends disappear 😉. We highly recommend Liberty Magic for a fun night in Pittsburgh!Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten January 27, 2024
- Anne Z1 contributionLiberty Magic is Awesome and Awe-insipring!This was the most fun I've had on an evening out in a long time. Derek Hughes was fantastic, but I've heard that all the magic acts are first rate. I loved it so much that I want to take family and friends to experience the awe and joy of Liberty Magic. The venue is intimate and the tickets are affordable. The show lasted 70 minutes, so it is a great addition to an evening out, but won't take up the whole night. Pittsburgh is lucky to have such a unique venue, and I highly recommend that both visitors and residents of Pittsburgh visit Liberty Magic. You will have a great time! Liberty Magic is an intimate theater venue featuring up-close performances by professional magicians. The beautiful lobby areas of the theater are a museum of colorful artifacts of the magician’s craft - lots to look at!
There are weekend workshops for kids interested in learning some secrets of a magician’s art, as well as amazing 70-90 minute shows by new performers each month.
I recommend reservations for the limited seating at any Liberty Magic show. I found the theater design to be very family friendly with clear sight lines from every seat in the room.
Purchasing a Skeleton Key gets you access to a more personal meet & greet with the magician after the show! I enjoyed that open Q&A time very much!
I absolutely recommend checking out the schedule of magicians performing & show times at Liberty Magic in the Cultural District of the city. It’s a delightfully new theater experience for everyone who is fascinated by the magical arts!

I am a professional magician and travel the globe witnessing magic shows. I have seen theatres devoted to magic in many countries, but few compare to Liberty Magic. I had the opportunity to watch Derek Hughes in January where he amazed a full house of people with his magic and storytelling and received a well deserved a standing ovation. I would not hesitate to recommend this venue to others. I would also like to mention Dan, the magician in the lobby, was quite talented and staff like Zoe were very welcoming. I really look forward to visiting Liberty Magic once again in the future.

Liberty Magic has REAPPEARED in the Cultural District. Attended the performance of Chris Capehart's Journey of the Master last week. It was opening night, following the shutdown during the Covid pandemic. We were so excited to see that Liberty Magic is open again, and we actual bought season tickets to come and see a new show each month. Chris Capehart's show was amazing and full of wonder. It is so good to see a master magician in such a small intimate space. The safety protocols made my group feel very safe in returning to the theater. At the time we attended, everyone was required to be vaccinated and show your vax card prior to entering, and also wear masks during the show. The performance was 90 minutes and just flew by- it was one of our favorite experiences post-pandemic.

A friend and I went to Liberty Magic last night to see Lee Terbosic perform his magic show In Plain Sleight . It was an incredible show. He has an amazing ability to connect with the audience, and of course, his magic is outstanding! It was a lot of fun I highly recommend the more expensive backstage option on the tickets which gives you front row seats and the chance to meet with Lee after the show. You’ll have the chance to learn more about his life and hear stories about his adventures performing for stars during his career.

My wife and I went to see Derek Hughes at Liberty Magic last night and were completely impressed. From our first entry into the lobby (where we were entertained by a close-up card magician) to our entrance into the theater (a beautiful venue that was built to allow for complete immersion by all into the performance) we saw attention to detail and design that could only have been done by a true lover of magic. And the performance of Derek Hughes was an absolute joy! He was performance was funny as hell and his magic top-notch. My recommendation is that you go to see Derek Hughes and afterward tell all of your friends!
I hope that Liberty Magic continues to succeed and grow. Magic must be seen in person to be appreciated and with the world-class caliber of magicians that Liberty Magic has booked we are in for a very magical ride!

I took my husband to the Derek Hughes magic show for his birthday. Hubby has always be intrigued by magic. We were both delighted with the performance and the venue. Mr. Hughes did many AMAZING tricks while interacting with the audience and keeping us laughing. The employees at Liberty Magic are all very helpful, friendly and fun. Water and soft drinks are provided for free. Otherwise, BYOB. It’s a comfortable, clean and intimate atmosphere. No bad seats. We had a MAGICAL evening.

Just went to Liberty Magic to see Peter Samelson. What a performance!
The venue is an intimate setting where you’re only about 2 to, perhaps, 8 feet away from the performer, in stadium seating, so even if you’re in the last (4th! row) you have an excellent view of everything.
We paid a little extra for the “Skeleton key VIP” package and so after the regular performance were able to go backstage with, perhaps, 1/2 dozen other people, who had also paid extra, to sit around a small table at which more tricks were performed mere inches in front of us.
The magician was really smooth and funny, and we spent the whole evening with our mouths open, either in awe of what he’d done or laughing at what he’d said or done. I was only able to catch one of the tricks he did and everything else was a complete mystery to me. Well worth the money!
If all the performers are as good as Peter Samelson was — and I have no reason to think that they’re not — we could easily become regulars!

One of the best Liberty Magic shows yet. Anna was so engaging. Included so many volunteers and even had us all do a magic card trick at the same time. Was super cool! Enjoyed the variety of her show as well. Card tricks, rubix cube tricks, mentalist aspects, danger tricks, and her card movement shuffling tricks were mind blowing!!!! Great show

I've visited liberty magic 4 times now and I have yet to walk away anything less than astounded. My girlfriend and I stare intently at this person that, sleeves rolled up, makes a card change with just a flick of a wrist. The small venue means you're never more than a couple yards from performer and it just blows my mind that I can't see where that shot glass came from or follow the cards as they disappear, close enough that I could reach out and touch them.

Is the seating close together like all the venues in Pittsburgh or is there room to stretch your legs? My husband cannot sit long with knees bent due to a knee replacement. He can no longer go to any of our venues. Hoping this is more spread out.
Written April 19, 2023
The front row has unlimited leg room. Besides, the front row seats offer an additional session after the main show is over. Depending on the magician, it could be the best part of the evening!
