(1) first many of the reviews you see are for The Strip District itself and many travelers are leaving reviews in the wrong place. (2) Pittsburgh Public Market is not on the strip and is a separate inside old warehouse converted into shops a block away. Basically Pittsburgh Public Market has inside craft shops. It was not very exciting if not into crafts or homemade items. Its also a block south of the main street and its on Smallman street. Id only visit if you used the parking lots a few blocks away by the river for only $5.00 a day. otherwise just stay on Penn Avenue on the main street on the Strip.

This is a busy urban market with such diverse offerings: a gigantic seafood market (Wholey's), several super-well stocked Italian grocery stores, Asian fare, bakeries, housewares, coffee shops, souvenirs, restaurants and bars - so much to see and EAT. We stop every time we are in Pittsburgh and find something new and delectable each time.

When we go to Pittsburgh we love to go to the strip district. Last time we stumbled across this local market. It is in the Warehouse section of Smallman street (river side). You need to go up the steps on the dock area. The are stands with local wares,, such as homemade jellies, Perogies, soups, coffee, art, hot suaces, alpaca goods and even a stand selling growlers of microbrew. We really enjoyed the market. We bought jelly, hot sauce and a growler. What more could you ask for. :)

As two couples we visited this area to see interesting shops and get lunch. Parking was a challenge. Sidewalks were crowded. Some shops we indifferent on mask use, others were militant (cover that nose!). Some were eager for our business, some acted like we were interrupting the number of of "real" customers they could allow in the store. One bakery gave us a Free piece of cake to celebrate their birthday (how nice). On the sidewalk, vendors made the area tight. No social distancing was possible.
At 1:30 we decided to finally get some lunch (the cake helped us wait). We tried 4 places. 1 was indifferent and dirty. One was so overly priced. The other two had 60-90 minute waits. We got in the car and drove away to another place for lunch. So some good experiences, some negative. Very touristy in a negative sense. Not welcoming with a few exceptions.

I come in here at least once during every visit to Pittsburgh. I like bringing back something small for the grand kids. If your looking for something different from the burgh, this is a nice spot to find it. There is so much from Pittsburgh and it's sports community among other things, you will have to find something to make you happy.

The strip distrist in Pittsburgh on a Saturday morning is an experience worth traveling for. Each of the old historical warehouse buildings each house shops or restaurants. The fish market alone would be worth the trip. (We brought a cooler and you may buy ice there.) Outside the fish market there was an employee sheeling fresh oysters. Inside, there is a counter selling the best fish sandwiches imaginable at a great price. We opted for the soft shell crab sandwich. Each sandwich had 2 crabs, and the price was only $6.99. The interior of the fish market itself is huge. There are many live shell fish, fresh fish and lots of frozen fish to choose from. Futher down the street we bought huge baskets of flowers. At another big store, we found the best assortment of Italian meats and cheeses this side of Italy. We found a wonderful bread and cookie store, and a pizza restaurant where they make their own wines. Make sure you allow enough time to see all the wares that the street vendors have too. Their assortment of Steeler accessories is impressive.

At the upper end of the Strip on Penn Ave you'll find the Public Market. It's growing and you'll find lots of local small purveyors of foods, crafts, and more. This new location lends itself to a stop when visiting the Strip.

Almost unimaginable! Everything is here. Restaurants, bars, vendors, and people! Lots of people. Maybe because it was Christmas Eve it seemed inundated. Very impressive markets and vendor stands. Unbelievable that anything under the sun can be had here. One market had enormous selection of seafood. Fresh langoustinos, fresh fish swimming in tanks for you to choose among to be filleted, incredible! Great bakeries and meat markets. A must-do if in the area. Can't wait to return.

Walked around and around for blocks at the exact location noted on the *live* website for the market but there is only a boarded up building. Asked a few stores next door and was told the market closed years ago. Considering the live site (with holiday hours noted!) and the references here, it's incredibly disappointing to waste time on trying to find it. Just walk the Strip stores and don't bother trying to find this place!
