This definitely more for the adventurous young adult. The fort is old and dingy but fun to explore. It sits on a sea side cliff with a great view if you're willing to scale the cliff to get to prime spots.

A little piece of history tucked away in Rhode Island. If you are looking to be outside for a short walk by the water, this is the place for you.

We were new to visiting Jamestown, and since we always try to find historic places to see on vacation, this was on our list to see. A bit disappointing that there were no signs or information posted about the history of the park. Maps of...More

It is exacty as it looks in the photos: a massive structure, covered in graffiti, along with some beachside cliffs and (at times) questionable hiking paths. However, there is a lot less nature and forest than I expected; it really is mostly just the fort...More

Ft. Wetherill is a lovely place to spend a day with your family. The RI State park overlooks Newport and the Atlantic Ocean. The park is a lovely place to walk and explore. There is a rocky beach for swimming, but there aren't any showers....More

Go all the way to the far southeast corner, where you can overlook the East Passage to Narragansett Bay. My will specifies to spread my ashes here. Enough said.

This is an old WW II fortification that I have been going to for years, even before they turned it into a park, It contains the old big gun implacements and there are even some old machine gun nests set on the hill. Great chance...More

A beautiful place to walk and enjoy the salt air. This is what Rhode Island is all about and Fort Wetherill is very special. No crowds & no admission! Simply, back to nature!

It's so sad that this historic site is covered in graffiti because it's so beautiful otherwise. There is free parking. There are amazing views of Fort Adams and the Newport harbor. There is just a short dirt trail that's somewhat steep (not wheelchair accessible) towards...More

On a summer day, you can spend the entire day. On the off season 1-2 hours walking and enjoying the views.

Do they let you in for a tour of the building itself.

Unfortunately, it's more ruins than attractions when it comes to the buildings. But, it's still worth it for the views.
