First visit to Beaufort, SC and was encouraged to visit Hunting Island State Park and so glad we did. We live within five miles of a state park but Hunting Island was like driving into a tropical paradise. The beach is beautiful, although we could not take advantage of the beach because of the time of the year. Another attraction... More

Talked to the ranger at the Nature Center. Everything in the park is closed due to Hurricane Matthew. You can't get into the road to the lighthouse. You can't even walk the trails to the lighthouse. The pier off the Nature Center is only open half way. So All you people who are raving about going inside the lighthouse must... More

You'll have a blast if camping is your thing. It's about a 20 minute drive from anything or anybody. Plenty of time for relaxing. Sets in between Fripp Island and Harbour Island. Sun, sand, and water.

I don't what these other recent posters are smoking but I'm in the Hunting State Park Nature Center talking to the employees and the lighthouse and other main beachside part of the Park have been closed off for quite some time due to hurricane damage so if you are visiting Beaufort I don't recommend driving the 16miles out here because... This park is beautiful. You may climb the light house for a little extra fee (less than $5) for an extra spectacular view. Walking on the beach you will come across some starfish.

Hunting Island is beautiful with wonderful ocean and park views. Currently it is closed because of damage from Hurricane Matthew in October. The island suffered damage to the beach and the gorgeous trees. Hopefully it will be open in the Spring so we can go visit our beach again. The historic light house is interesting and the views from the... More

Had no idea what to expect here - absolutely beautiful park and beach area - so happy we visited. Make sure you go to the top of the lighthouse, the view is stunning - just hold onto your sunglasses! When my husband stepped out of the stairwell at the top, the wind whipped them right off and down to the... More

The state park has a historical light house and other attractions to visit. We love the camping which you can choose right up near the beach or in the wooded areas. Watch out for the raccoons. They stole our food from our outside refrigerator one night! Camping reservations need to be made well in advance, and unfortunately, due to Hurricaine... More
