About a 45 minute drive from Beaufort, one goes back in time to visit this park that contains the historical lighthouse. A minimal fee to enter the park, one has the opportunity to walk the many trails and of course walk the beautiful beach. We...More

Huge facility with beaches ranging from hurricane ravaged forest to soft sand on a gradual slope going to the sea. There's a lighthouse built close to the civil war that allows you to go to the top and view the surrounding area. Nice write ups...More

I wish I could give a more complete review, but we were there during an unusual cold snap and didn't explore as much as we would like. We did find the beach, which is reported to often be littered with shark teeth! Also, we strolled...More

A great place to walk with or without dogs. Alongside the beach, super cool trees growing every which way, and the site of the war in Forest Gump (local fact).

We visited the area in June 2017, just as it had reopened after a hurricane the previous year. It's beautiful and different and wild in nature. The lighthouse is available to climb and it's a must-stop location if you are in the area.

One of my most favorite places to visit had been severely damaged by the recent hurricane, and there is a lot of work being done and yet to be done. However, the beach is still lovely, and we spend a nice afternoon walking, picking up...More

It's very clear Hurricane Irma beat the park up pretty well, but it was still quite beautiful and we enjoyed our visit, despite the unseasonable cold. We would have liked to see the campground, just to check it out, but it's completely roped off and...More

We had a family outing to this park. The undisturbed beach is quite beautiful and the lighthouse was enjoyable by our whole group. The Nature Center is the entrance just past the main state park entrance but it's worth a visit, as well. It's small...More

Same as the other responder, Hunting Island will be closed until early 2018 due to Irma, not sure if sites have been washed out or reconfigured, so may want to check back next year.

Just saw on The Beaufort Gazette's Facebook today page that due to Irma the island is going to be closed for the rest of the year. It's taken a big hit the past year with storms. I suggest monitoring their website and... More

The park as well as the beach is closed. They will not allow you to go on the beach. Besides, it would be very dangerous.
