I was knocked out by this remarkable museum and just regret that I didn't allow enough time to really take it all in. The story of Charleston was told in an intriguing and entertaining way, and the museum layout was perfect.

The museum handles a lot of subjects - some better the others. The historical overview is very well done. The objects are well chosen and well explained in context. The natural history sections seem to be more of an after thought.

Located along Meeting Street and across the street from the Visitor's Center, the Charleston Museum has a model of the Hunley, one of the first submarines used in naval history.

This museum has so much to see. The agent told us we could see it in an hour. No way! Far too much to see and learn to not take longer. It is well worth your time to see and enjoy!

Out front they have a model of the H.L. Hunley submarine. The model is interesting because it was made before they recovered the real boat, which is smaller. But since you can't get close to the real thing due to restoration, this is pretty cool....More

This is a nice museum for anyone interested in the history of Charleston. There are many exhibits with very detailed information about Charleston's past. There is a separate kids' room, which we didn't go in to, so I cannot comment on that. The rest of...More
