The main attraction was the visiting artist. He stole the show. The actual stationary pieces were interesting but not so much for the price.

Surprising how little good art is actually on display here. Walls were dirty, lighting was poor, and the outside could use a decent power-washing. The Westmark works were fantastic but probably would look better hanging at the Halsey.

A wonderful silver exhibit and many examples of South Carolina artists. The two non-permanent exhibits that were there were not up to the same quality as the rest of the museum, and IMHO, were given too much space for too little content. But take the time and see the history portrayed on the first floor.

While this museum is small, it has a nice collection with enough diversity to while away a couple of hours. They had a very interesting traveling exhibit on Civil War photography when we were there in October - loved it! I was disappointed to learn they did not have a book of the collection (which is more immense than what... More

Excellent museum. Historical building. Diverse collection affords a pleasant art experience in 1-2 hours.

Unfortunately the upper floor was closed for setting up new displays but the lower level galleries are still full of interest. It took about 30 - 45 minutes and cost only $5 because of the limited displays but I enjoyed learning about the links to European art over the years and the evolution of local talent. There is a facility... More

Magnificent portraits bring Charleston colonial history to life. This is a wonderful addition to the many historic houses you can visit.

one is about history, the other is about art in charleston. the two combined give a good overview of charleston through its various phases of glory and more difficult times. we enjoyed this museum very much and found it a nice addition to the charleston museum as the cultural life of a town often reflects the well being of the... A nice way to spend a couple of hours during inclement weather, sometimes supplemented by touring exhibitions, unfortunately just missed a very well received Civil War photograph exhibit.

Once again, the Gibbes Museum of Art comes through with shining colors. The most recent exhibit of Civil War Photography was comprehensive, and amazing.
