This is a historic Charleston cemetery tucked away from downtown. It was an experience I will not forget as the historical relevance of those who came before are represented here. I took some wonderful photos that day and will not forget the visit.

Wonderful example of a historic cemetary. Members of the Hunley crew are interred here as well as many Civil War vets. Make sure to wear bug spray, lots of water nearby and the biggest hungriest mosquitos I have ever seen. Also watch for fire ants.

We set out to find the crews of the Hunley and walked the grounds for about 3 minutes before realizing we were itching like crazy!!! Mosquitoes were rampant! Bring bug spray. ,that said, we found the Hunley area at the back of the cemetery. Nice memorial.

Unbelievable, the life that is here. Borrowed a book on this cemetery to take with me , as a professional photographer this was quite the experience. If you decide to visit, don't rush, take your time to look at the monuments and the names. The Hunley crew is buried here also. be sure to Google while your there, interest stories... More

A hidden gem not far from the historic district, It was designed as a park in the tradition of Hollywood Cemetery of Richmond VA or Mt. Auburn. A great place to bird watch too.

My husband and I enjoy visiting cemeteries. This is one of the best. It is beautiful with the lake, oak trees, and Spanish moss. So historic because graves date back to the 1700s. Many excellent local grave decoration styles. We could have wandered here for hours.

We visited the cemetery on a gray, cloudy, drizzly day, and enjoyed our visit very much. The cemetery is vast and easy to drive around. The combination of old headstones and tombs, myriad flora, and a rustic setting amid an urban environment, imbue the place with a magical aura.

The grounds are beautiful but it is the headstones that give you pause to think about all the lives lost in conflict. This site is definitely worth visiting.
