Join a 13th generation Middleton, for a personalized local perspective. End the tour in a private garden with refreshments. Walk with a local who grew up romping the streets of the downtown peninsula. The history of the city will come alive through the bricks and mortar still standing.

We ended up booking this tour based on availability but it ended up being great and we learned so much from our tour guide, Anne. She knew lots about Charleston history and could recite so many dates and facts, it made our heads spin! We ended the tour in her parent's garden with lemonade.

I was able to be guided through some nooks and crannies of this lovely city. Anne is very knowledgable and personable and I learned a lot about Charleston and its history from someone who has lived in Charleston her entire life and is 13th generation on both sides of her family. We finished off the tour with a relaxing cup... More

We did an afternoon walk with Martha and really enjoyed it! She gave a great overview of the development of the city and some insider perspective from someone who grew up there (and whose family has been there for a while). Her training as an archaeologist added a little more weight to some of the material, and the history she... More

Our tour started promptly at 10 led by Anne Middleton, a very personable and pleasant 13th generation Charlestonian. Anne took us through many alleys and streets at a good pace while offering historical facts and insights about all around us. Absolutely steeped in the history and story of a city about which we knew very little. This was a perfect... More

Perusing the historic areas of downtown Charleston with Ann was a fun and delightful way to spend a couple of hours. She's shared history, community changes and what it was like to grow up as a child, playing her way through the neighborhoods. We came away with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the history of this wonderful city.

Our tour with Martha was a highlight of our visit. She hit on a diverse set of topics that gave a good historical overview of the city & culture, and her archaeology background allowed for some additional insights thrown in that were very interesting. While we were lucky enough to have a fairly small tour group anyway, Martha was so... More

The tour was comprehensive and never lagged or felt tedious. The fact that our guide, Martha, was a Charleston native and had lived in some of the buildings we passed lent credence to her delivery. This is the perfect tour to take on your first Charleston morning. Thank you, Martha!

We were only in Charleston for a 3-day Christmas break, and had to book our tours and activities on Christmas Eve morning and afternoon, since the city practically shuts down early on Christmas Eve and is closed on Christmas Day. Unfortunately, we were an hour into our second tour, the wonderful History of Charleston walking tour, when my husband informed... More
