Join a 13th generation Middleton, for a personalized local perspective. End the tour in a private garden with refreshments. Walk with a local who grew up romping the streets of the downtown peninsula. The history of the city will come alive through the bricks and mortar still standing.

My husband and I really enjoyed our tour with Martha. She was extremely informative and clearly has a passion for history and Charleston. Her own personal experiences as an archeologist also added another layer to the tour. I would recommend this tour for anyone!

Fantastic! Our tour guide was of the 13th generation in Charleston of the Middleton family, a well know name in the low country. Having lived her whole life in historic Charleston, she new every detail of its history including the most obscure names and dates. Her explanations were enjoyable and informative. She was eager to share her knowledge of and... More

Thanks for the great review and recommendations. I totally agree. This tour will give a sense of the history, the people, and the layout of the land. It'll make your wonderings much more meaningful. Our daily discussions include: The founding fathers, the Revolution and Civil wars, slavery, and the civil rights movement. Come join us! Anne More

Anne Middleton Herron conducted the best walking tour I have ever been on - anywhere in the world. A 13th generation Charlestonian, she knew her city inside out, and her fluency and love for it really brought the historic quarter to life. If you visit, book her without ny further research!

This was a fantastic two hour walking tour of the city. Our tour guide Anne is a 13th generation Charlestonian anthropologist who knew a lot about the history and it was amazing to hear her personal story mixed in with the tour. This was the perfect way to start our trip and I learned a lot about the city that... More

This tour gives you a picture of Charleston as it grew up as a walled city as well as its transformation into a tourist and historical destination in the last 20 years.

One of the best walking tours I have ever had. Anne did a wonderful job of explaining the history while mixing in her own personal history and stories from her own life. It really gave another edge to the tour that you could not get with someone who wasn't so local. I recommend it!

We have taken many walking tours in Charleston and this is by far the best. The tour guides (two sisters) grew up in the city and know the small back alleys that aren't in the books. Very interesting and fun at the same time. Skip the buses and horse drawn draws carriages, this is the only way to see Charleston.
