Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is home to nearly 2,000 animals that represent more than 350 species from around the world. A visit to the Zoo will play host to an array of wild adventures from a diving expedition on a Pacific coral reef to a safari through the plains of Africa to an interactive Outback encounter with a flock of sociable lorikeets.

The Botanical Garden boasts 70-acres of unparalleled beauty and is considered one of the America's best public gardens. Dramatic and themed gardens showcase more than 4,300 species of native and exotic plants, providing a living classroom for gardeners and non-gardeners alike.

The Garden also is the gateway to natural river views and spectacular valley overlooks. In addition, guests can view structural remains dating back to the early 1800s with South Carolina's textile industry and the Civil War.

My family went to see the Christmas Light Show. It costs twice as much and there is almost nothing to see. We were very disappointed.

We live 1.5 hours away and we still bought the year-long pass for this zoo! We loved the giraffe feeding and the barn animal petting area. The zoo is well laid out and GREAT for kids. It offers a perfect balance of "look at" and "interact with" exhibits that keep kids entertained and adults happy. I remember visiting this zoo... More

Anyone who has families or enjoys the zoo would love this place. Centrally located in downtown Columbia SC.

Who doesn't have fun at the zoo, there's a good variety of animals to see, and my little cousins especially enjoyed it. It's a great place to take family and kids

Spent a full day here and had a great time. Would highly recommend if in the area!! Some interactive stuff for kids - A very nice Carousel. There is a climbing wall and elevated ropes/obstacle course. The Aquarium was awesome!

Admittedly there are not a lot of attractions in Columbia. It is the state capitol and has those types of things, but it is a town people live in, it is not a destination town. That being said, if Columbia is your vacation destination you can do a lot worse than visit the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The Riverbanks... More

I had never been to the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden but the Multiple Sclerosis Society was having an annual zoo picnic here and I chose to support their cause...The Zoo was excellent..great staff with upbeat attitudes you could tell that they enjoyed working at the Riverbanks...very imformative discussions and exhibits you left having learned something you did not know... Went to the Zoo with my daughter and 20 month old grandson and it was a lot of fun. The animals are in habitats that are close enough to really get a good look at them. The monkeys really perform for an audience making loud noise and swinging around. The food is fair (ice cream, corn dogs, chicken tenders) so... More

The Riverbanks Zoo is undergoing huge transformations. It's always great for little kids, but my big kids enjoy it every couple of years as well. Lots of interesting activities to keep things new.

I have visited this zoo for years and it is always great! It can get very crowded during late spring/summer, but that is to be expected. The giraffe and parrot feeding stations are a must! Try and plan to be there first thing when they open. We spent the night inside the zoo with our Cub Scout pack and ALL... More
