Monument here is very small and in many ways disappointedly lame. Single rock with little to no interpretation. Given the spectre of Sherman still present in Columbia one would think there might actually be a more developed interpretation of what happened and why. But no......More

In fact Columbia, despite its historic role in the Civil War, lacks a cohesive interpretation of its role. We just happened across the cannon ball shots on the Capitol. Just happened to stay at a hotel on the site where Sherman repeatedly stayed. Yet, there...More

This is a nice monument to show where the surrender took place during the Civil War. However, there is no parking or any other info on site about it. And not really in the best of neighborhoods.

If you truly want to learn about this battle then go to Riverbanks Zoo. Enter the walking path on the botanical gardens side and find the small cabin. There you can learn a great deal. Also visit my friends at the Relic Room just below...More

I hate to disillusion you but this is nothing more than a ROCK that has been carved that this is where the surrender of Columbia happened. HOWEVER, There is no proof that the actual surrender of Columbia Happened here, and that the monument was put...More
