This is a quiet park like historical site. There are markers telling visitors how the earthen works were used to defend the island during the Civil War.

Probably should have looked into it more before visiting... It is in a gated community, but if you tell the guards at the gate where you are heading, they will give you a day pass. It is basically just a few boards telling you about...More

We arrived at Fort Mitchel after going through the gate house of a gated community. We told the security guard where we were going and he gave us a pass. Once we pulled up, we noticed the sign that said it was closed for repairs....More

Neat little place tucked in a community. Have to go through security gate but very easy to access. Pretty views and markers to tell you about the history of the fort.

We were told by security that the fort was closed due to leaning trees. It is not clear when it will be reopened as cleanup from the October storm is still ongoing

While this Fort is in the gated community of Hilton Head Plantation, anyone can visit; just tell the folk at the gate where you are going and they will give you a pass and directions. Easier to access the fort from the gate off Skull...More

When you walk through here, it is hard to believe that men acutally lived here to fight a Civil War. It is not much more that a few ditches overlooking the skull creek.
