There was nothing to see here. When we arrived I did not have high expectations, I had read the reviews. I did however expect to see at least some remnants of an old fort. The only thing there were a couple of cannons and a...More

This fort was around during the Civil War and was in a unique spot at the time. There isn't any buildings but there is a lot of info for what went on there.

Located in a gated community. Saw sign on the main road, so decided to take a look. Got a free pass to this restricted area because we asked. Not very well marked in the subdivision so missed turnoff and had to backtrack. Be sure to...More

Tucked backaways from the main roads, this site has an interesting story, but most of the site has been reclaimed by the earth and/or concreted over to make walking paths for visitors.

Very interesting, sort of hard to find as one has to travel through not one but two gated communities. The second is within the first one. We were the only people there.

Nice place, some signs with history of the fort, how it was built and the purpose. The original cannons are long gone, but they have a few set on concrete to replicate the one's that were there. The short walk and reading the signs takes...More

This area was very quiet. We did not see anyone on the trails. The fort is gone. There are signs that explain a few things. Very pleasant place to walk around or sit. 20-30 minutes was fine for us.

Fort Mitchel (one L) played a key role as the Federals won the Civil War, and we are pleased to see that Fort Mitchel’s history is included in the local education curriculum. Research the history of Fort Mitchel prior to one’s visit. And enjoy fine...More

Our freed men heritage is important to HHI. Fort Mitchel is an ideal venue to tell that story. At the moment it is still a work in progress, but worth the visit.
