This is an interesting memorial to visit in Mt Pleasant S C. It had a lot of memorable markers and the history of the ones served in the cold war. Interesting to read.

We parked free at the soccer field right behind this memorial. It is small, with the plaques offer an interesting history of submarines during the Cold War. The memorial is to both the sailors and their families.

If you're visiting Patriot's Point you should stop and visit the memorial. I have visited the Yorktown twice. My father served during WWII and there is a lot to see from WWII up to and through the Viet Nam War.

What a shame to see it rusting away so very badly. We did not bothering entering the sub, the rust above the water line was so shocking. If it can be saved, I hope that happens.

The structure might be easy to miss but you should stop after the USS Yorktown visit. It is literally right across the street from the parking lot. You can walk over before you leave the area.

Did not know this was here so we did not visit but would be on the agenda next time, especially for teens to get history and to view a submarine.

Went to visit USS Yorktown and happened upon the Ballistic Submarine Cold War Memorial. It is a great free monument to see and all the plaques and benches around it. A must see!

When visiting the Patriots Point Naval Museum it would be easy and normal to miss this memorial while concentrating on the big ships. I found it fascinating and sobering to walk around and read the plaques. I was in the Canadian military when the Thresher...More
