We thoroughly enjoyed our brief visit. Flew a kite on the beach...such a pretty area, free from commercialization and private condos. Not too crowded at sunset. Cool breezes, the ocean...what could be better?! The drive out was also beautiful. We caught some really great sunset...More

This park is great, lots of herons, egrets, cormorants, alligators, and most exciting, painted buntings! The beach is beautiful, nice white sand and clean. We took a look at the campgrounds for future and will probably be back to camp!

Dog Friendly and family friendly. Beautiful beach & sunrise. Long walk to end of jetty worth the effort. Great RV/tent sites.

It has to be one of the best beaches in South Carolina. 2 and 1/2 miles of unspoiled beach and it is far enough from Myrtle Beach that it never gets crowded.

You would want to use de beach for sure but do not miss the visite of the Atalaya "house". House of a scultress. Across the road (highway 17) , you must visit the Brookgreen garden.

Which is the best picnic shelter to reserve close to the ocean but not a long walking distance from the parking area? Looking at a small wedding in September and need a location for older guest to sit for a short ceremony in the sand prior to the event.

There are nice covered picnic tables near the boardwalk that leads to the beach from the parking lot. Not a long walk!!
What is the temp like in mid-april? Is it warm enough for the kids to enjoy swimming? Would they burn by the sun at that time of year?

The water was cold my kids got wet but it was too cold to swim. We did get some sun though so yea you can still get a burn.
can you just go there and walk around even though you are not camping?
