Interesting. Good view of Fort Sumpter

Did a drive by. Well preserved. Knew of it from history study. Just past it is access road to beach from which there is good view of Fort Sumpter.

It seemed like a place a guy interested in history might find more interesting than I did. It had a lot of empty bunkers/rooms. The one thing I did find of interest was a room that was left as it might have been in the 40's, when it was still being used for protection from invasions.

I visited both Fort Moultrie and Fort Sumter while in the Charleston area. I stumbled upon Moultrie while driving around, but found it a pleasent surprise. While I enjoyed both forts this one seemed to have more exhibits and far less people. I actually thought it was partially abandoned while walking around.

$5 for our family of three. Great exhibits in the admission building and an informative 20 min film in the theatre are available. The fort is well marked for a self guided tour. Many interesting nooks and crannies to explore. We had already toured Sumter the previous day and while we enjoyed it, the actual grounds of Moultrie were more... More

We had never heard of Fort Moultrie until shortly before our trip to Charleston. We were so glad that we heard about it and made a visit. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Lots of great information on our self guided trip. We loved the underground bunker, with the office's that were set up... More

We stopped here after a visit to Fort Sumter to get some other views of the military history of Charleston. There is a small museum and gift shop (stamp you Passport to the National Parks here) and then you can cross the street to explore the fort. It is very interesting and has some informative signs explaining what you are... More

We went to Fort Moultrie as it was highly recommended by the guides at Patriot Point. Glad we did! It's on Sullivan Island and very picturesque. This is a very laid back tour that can be done in 2 hours or less. You get a beautiful view of the waterfronts. While there make sure you take the short walk to... More

Not easy to get to, but worth your time if you love civil war history. Park rangers are a little lax in helping out, but the self guided tour is good.

If you like history this place has it. A good account of how forts were used a.ong our coast for protection from enemies. At $3 to get in it was worth it for the movie and walking around the fort. Avoid in the heat of the summer!!!
