Making plans to visit friends in Jonesville, SC I got directions on google and discovered we had to go through a State Park. Upon driving the route, we saw signs that read Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site. Well we made a visit upon our return from Jonesville. Tour given by the Park Ranger on duty was excellent! With facts,... More

Take The Interior of the Home Tour. Tour times are 11AM, 1PM and 3PM daily. This is a TRUE Southern Plantation that reflects how difficult life was during the era. The restoration that is taking place on this home is truly amazing. Listen carefully as the Tour Guide talks about this home. Also take the time to walk the grounds.... More

I can't say enough nice things about this place. The ranger/guide that took us through the tour of the house was very knowledgeable and thorough. I haven't been here since I was a child in elementary school and I must say I learned so much during this visit. I hope to visit again during the holiday season when the place... More

The Gist family residence known as Rose Hill Plantation is magnificent in an understated way. The house is majestic but in a subtle way. The grounds are pretty and well kept as are the outbuildings but I long for more emphasis on the Gist families role in SC history. The governor of SC when it seceded from the union was... More

What a great hidden gem of a state historic site. Just outside of Union SC this wonderfully restore plantation home tells the story of SC secession governor Gist. The surrounding national forest covers what was once a large upstate cotton plantation. If you visit be sure to ask the helpful ranger about the sites revolutionary past.

Even I have been there just on my own this nice gentleman made a tour just for me. It was amazing to see inside the house and was definitely a highlight on my American trip. P.S.@Hofer: I do NOT have a dog!

We came here and picnicked and the kids climbed some trees and then we took the trail (the shorter one). It really wasn't much to speak of, but a woodland walk is always better than just sitting around doing nothing. The ranger was exceptionally nice. She opened the office for us (and others) to purchase items and get the all-important... More

This House is so pretty. The river is a short walk behind the house and there is a very short trail loop that goes around back of the house. Great place to just take a quite walk or the dogs for a walk.

The building is great. Glad that it has been preserved. The only other thing that is represented as original is the kitchen building. It apparently is from the timeframe that the Gist's lived there but is the second kitchen. So it is great, too.
