We visited in early April, which is the off season. Our visit was fine because we were able to walk the ground and to go in to many of the buildings without any crowds. The bathrooms were locked, but that was a minor inconvenience. I would go back the next time I visit South Dakota because it is only a... More

We spent the whole day at the Ingalls Homestead, and it was great and felt very authentic. Both children and adults enjoyed the Day thoroughly - even though only two of us (we were 6 people There) read the books.

Everyone here was very knowledgeable and friendly. The wagon ride and school house tour were the best part it would have been great had they offered guided tours of the rest of the property. Otherwise, very hands on, there is nothing you can't touch (you can even lay on the rope bed!) and no where you can't go! As an... More

I visited this homestead as a child, when there was nothing there. It was such a delight to bring my own children to see the homestead made over into a replica of Laura's real homestead. We enjoyed making corn cob dolls, and the kids really enjoyed the school house lesson. Can't wait to visit again!

My Mom grew up watching Little House on the Prairie so we drove a little off the beaten path to get here to visit the Homestead. It was interesting and it was a chilly, cloudy day, but there were other people visiting as well. The staff was nice and knowledgeable about the area and the Ingalls. It's more for kids... More

It was a life-long dream of mine to visit all of the places that Laura Ingalls Wilder lived and wrote about in her books. So, to be able to visit the Ingalls homestead was absolutely a dream come true. I could actually imagine the cow on her picket-line and the Big Slough as I stood there gazing out onto the... More

If you are into Little House this is a must see! I would recommend a summer visit as the entire site is not functioning in the late fall.

Wow!!! Just Wow!. We enjoyed every minute. All the real things we were able to see and do that we had seen the Hollywood version of on TV. Much of what we knew was real...much was different. Seeing the real house, and the real school and hearing the story made me want to read all the books again.

This wasn't on my itinerary, but I saw the sign on the interstate on my way to Rapid City, and since I loved the original books and was in the mood for an unplanned adventure, I took the 50-mile detour. It was worth it; I enjoyed the scenery and the experience of being on the actual land where Laura Ingalls... More

I was told by the gal working at the uptown museum that the Ingalls Homestead wasn't something someone "my age" would enjoy...it was more for kids! How wrong she was! We went over there that evening AND again the next day. It was soooo much fun. I even rented a covered wagon to bring my granddaughters back next summer!!! Was... More
