We traveled from Hill City to Keystone. We didn't stay very long in Keystone. If you have a longer lay over, I would recommend having the layover in Keystone vs Hill City. Bathrooms at the train station were clean. There is not assigned seats, which...More
Nice ride from Keystone to Hill City and back. If you want to take the steam train, take the later train rides. They use the Diesel train first thing in the morning until the steam train is ready. Naration of the trip as you go,...More
Thank you for joining us, Joe. The first round trip of the day is always the diesel engine, as you mentioned. The schedule is posted in January, reflecting the diesel engine departures. All of our trips are able to be purchased as one way rides...More
Went with husband and son, the train is cramped on leg room - cannot state that enough. The price at $30 a person for a two hour ride doesn't seem bad until you do it and you realize that you're on an old train with...More
We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience on board the 1880 Train, Cherri. The wooden seats in our open cars offer more leg room and the seat backs in our enclosed cars are able to face forward or backward, with facing...More
What an opportunity! We started in Keystone and went to Hill City. It was so nostalgic! And there was a guide that talked over the speakers and told a little history. The seats were surprisingly very comfortable and we were able to move around in...More
We appreciate you joining us on the 4th of July and are happy to hear you enjoyed the experience. Thanks for posting your review!
This place is phenomenal. The people are knowledgeable and friendly. Very fun and cheap! It's a 2 hour journey through the center of the Black Hills and very inexpensive!! Check this place out!
Thank you for joining us and taking the time to post your review. We are glad you enjoyed your 1880 Train experience!
We enjoyed our trip but would not do it again. We did it for the kids but one time is enough. The train does give you a chance to see the countryside which is a great reason to go. After this trip we decided if...More
We appreciate you joining us on the 1880 Train. A ride on a vintage steam engine is a great way to see the unique countryside and have time to relax without having to worry about navigating the curves! Thanks for your review.
My mom and I wanted to ride the train, so I made reservations online, and we rode the 7:00 am train. The early morning train ride is recommended, for the train is not as full, and the ride is smooth with the announcer giving the history...More
Thank you for joining us on our early morning departure. It is a beautiful time to ride and much less busy than the middle of the day! We are happy to hear you enjoyed the trip.
We went into the station to purchase tickets. The train we wanted was sold out for the day so we purchased tickets for the next day. We went to get on the train and noticed that the wrong date was on the ticket. So once...More
We apologize there was a mix up with your tickets and hope it was taken care of. We recommend purchasing tickets in advance as our departures sell out this time of year. Tickets are printed right before you get on the train, so passengers must...More
We took a round-trip from Hill City to Keystone and back with children (10, 6 and 2 y.o.). It's a nice and relaxed ride (relatively slow), and you get to enjoy the Black Hills. Not too long even for a 2 y.o. Buy tickets in...More
