We enjoyed our visit here - the owner was lovely and helped my kids (12 and under) pick great quartz samples for souvenirs (very reasonably priced!) - spending time chatting with them about the different samples and weighing different ones so they could choose what they liked the best for their budget. They both walked away with lovely sizeable samples... More

When you are first outside the store there are bins of rocks with a variety of rocks, and their pricing. The size of the rocks varies, which is cool because if you wanted a lovely, unique piece of rose quartz or alabaster for your garden, here would be a good place to find it. Some of the rocks inside are... More

We deliberately went back into Hill City to visit this shop with the intention of finding a unique Christmas present for a good friend who is passionate about rocks. The young couple that appeared to own the store were very nice and extremely knowledgeable about their business without being overbearing. We had lots of time to look on our own... More

My daughter loves rocks, fossils and whatnot, so we HAD to go here! I'm pretty glad we did. We had a pretty good selection of local stones to choose from. You can buy by the pound the raw ones in the yard. Inside they have some a little more 'cleaned up' and sold by the item. The prices were reasonable.... More

My wife and I went in Things That Rock right at closing time one evening in late May, but Shari was absolutely welcoming and wonderful. Before our visit to the shop was over, we had purchased a large piece of beautiful rose quartz which my wife loves, and the incredible fossilized skull of an oreodont, which we (with Shari) nicknamed... Awesome local rocks, cool mineral specimens, and nice jewelry for you or your loved one, what more could you ask for? How about friendly, knowledgeable service and a welcoming atmosphere? Well, they have that, too! A great place to go for a little piece of South Dakota to take home, or for something unique that everyone else will admire and... More

We wandered into this little shop across from Alpine Inn- while waiting for our table and what a find this is! You can tell there is a lot of talent in Shari with her work! She is an artist! You have to stop in and check out this shop!

We stopped in here after dinner one evening, what a neat little shop. They had a good selection of rocks that you would find in the South Hills as well as rocks from other parts of the world. I found a tiny buffalo carved out of soapstone and a little nativity set. The prices were very reasonable.
