Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Visitors are presented with a cave in its natural state and our 45-minute (+/-) Crystal Palace Walking Tour allows them to view thousands of diverse formations - stalagtites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, flowstone, rimstone pools, draperies, columns, natural bridges, and a rare shield formation. We also offer a variety of wild cave "spelunking" expeditions for those who want to view beyond the lighted pathways and explore deeper into the mountain. Our Waterfall Dome expedition permits visitors to view the areas tallest underground, natural (unassisted) flowing waterfall.

I did the 5 hour Gypsum crawl, the longest and hardest of all the tours. The caves are amazing and challenging with a couple spots where you go, "Hell no!" but then you psyche yourself up after seeing your little tour guide do it before...More

We loved every minute of this adventure! Michael was our guide. He made us laugh, and was very knowledgeable. The only other wild caving experience I've had was in New Zealand, where we abseiled down 100m hole and down waterfalls. It was wild, and I...More

This is some truly amazing and serious caving. Crawling, squeezing and climbing. The cave is gorgeous and expansive and our guide Justin was fantastic. I highly recommend it, just know that it can get exhausting quickly, so you should be in half decent shape. I'll...More

Raccoon Mountain Caverns expeditions is truly amazing! For those wanting a little more adventure and a little less tourism, comparable to Rock City and Ruby Falls, these spelunking tours are so much fun! Literally belly crawling, balancing acts, squeezing, ducking, dodging, mild rope climbing, and...More
