Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Visitors are presented with a cave in its natural state and our 45-minute (+/-) Crystal Palace Walking Tour allows them to view thousands of diverse formations - stalagtites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, flowstone, rimstone pools, draperies, columns, natural bridges, and a rare shield formation. We also offer a variety of wild cave "spelunking" expeditions for those who want to view beyond the lighted pathways and explore deeper into the mountain. Our Waterfall Dome expedition permits visitors to view the areas tallest underground, natural (unassisted) flowing waterfall.

We had an incredible time caving. Seriously the most enjoyable activity I've done since moving here a year ago. Our guide, Justin, made sure everyone was safe and had a fantastic time. I look forward to going back many more times. We loved it! Thank...More

Super awesome! But a warning, it was kinda strenuous and a little painful by the end. Me and my husband are in our twenties and fit people, and that length of time crawling in the cave (4.5 hrs) bordered on too much for us. By...More

We took the Crystal Palace Tour, which is about 45 minutes to an hour, and fairly easy walking. They have other tours, for the more adventurous, where you get wet and muddy and crawl through portions of the caves. Our tour guide was new, but...More

This was an interesting Cave system to visit with lots of potential. Our guide was a caver and very knowledgeable about the entire cave system, tour offerings and history of the caves in the area. The most actively growing cave we have ever been in...More

Jumped on a tour for my birthday this year and had a fantastic time. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Justin was a terrific guide and was especially good with the young children. Highly recommend.

I had never been in a cave before minus my trip to Ruby Falls. As a hands on person, I like to fully experience something and to me, Ruby Falls is more of a tourist trap. I loved Raccoon Mountain caverns! I left that place...More

No, there is no gold. It's for the kids to get a bag full of gems and sand for them to act like panning to find treasure, but yeah no gold!!
