Not used by public as you would think. Not sure if it's privately owned or public property. I have seen this lake and know a few of the close residents, but never thought about "using" the lake for recreational purposes. I have been told it used to have a high diving board and was used by the public. ??? Just don't know much about it!

Is Rose Bailey Lake/Pond public use or private owned? Can I fish there? I've heard it called a lake but it appears to be a large pond to me.

I lived at Rose Bailey Lake in the latter years of World War II. It was privately owned at that time. It was a pretty good lake at that time and on the west side was a mobile home park. Most of the residents were there because of construction at Oak Ridge and there were few houses for sale or rent. Entry was from Highway 70 and the gravel street extended to the end of the lake Where there was a building that had areas for changing clothes. a laundry room and a large room that could be used for meetings or parties. Mr. Rose had an office there. From parking area there was a hallway leading to the pier which extended out around 50 feet. At the end of the pier was a diving tower with diving boards at the end of the pier and at two levels above the pier. There were row boats and canoes there. At the center of the lake, there was a spillway that allowed for excess rainfall to flow through a pipe under the dam to keep the water level down to protect the dam from flooding. While living there I saw motor boats on the lake and recall one that hit something under the water fast and hard enough that it broke the boat in half. Yesterday (July 25, 2019) I went there to show my wife where I lived during the war and when I started to school. I initially had a hard time locating it. When I finally found it I was dumbfounded by what I saw. The bath house, pier, diving tower and spillway were gone. The dam appeared to be about where I remember the spillway being located. My guess is that something happened to the original dam and a new dam was created, making a much smaller body of water (really about the size of a large stock pond.) There was no evidence of the mobile home lots (My best guess was that there had been 30 to 40 mobile homes there at the time.) Remember that this is all from my memories and that I had not been back for 74 years until yesterday - and I was only 6 when we left there. Dan Holt
