We booked the whole day Nicaragua tour from Costco Travel at Dreams Las Mareas. I really wanted to see the Masaya Volcano and get a glimpse of Moulton Lava. There are only 3 volcanos in the world to boast a lake of magma, Hawaii's Kilauea, Nyiragongo in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Masaya in Nicaragua. The day started early... More

I decided to get a night tour from Granada with a friend to Volcan Masaya. On the drive up you get a quick stop at a viewpoint at Lake Masaya before you head up to the Volcano itself. The view into the volcano was breathtaking. You can see the sulphur smoke risking into the air, you can see the glow... More

Most people go for the night visit which was indeed awesome but I also enjoyed seeing the volcano during the day when there were fewer people, it was less rushed, and you sense the scope of the size

The best time to photograph this is at twilight, but you need to know how to get there before it s too dark. Night viewing entries cost more and begins at 6:00. Everyone must wait at the entrance before proceeding. The will take about 100 people in in the first group, as your vehicle will advance to the rim with... More

A sensational place to visit. Peering into the crater you can see actual molten bubbling lava. What a great site. A must if you are in the area

I was here in April. Night trip. You can see really just the pick of the lava. I expected a lot more. I think it would have been cool if more lava was exposed. But in the current condition it's an over rated trip

This is your unique chance to see an active volcano so close, you can hear the lava. It is a great experience for the kids.

On a day trip from Costa Rica to Granada stopped here and was absolutely fascinated by actually looking right down into a giant hole in the Earth and actually seeing the molten lava. They say you don't always see molten lava but it must have been my lucky day. You cant stay long though because of the gasses being admitted.

Almost every time we visit Nicaragua, we come to this volcano. Our 6 year old son is obsessed with volcanos. The little exposition about volcanos in general and the Masaya volcano is perfect for him. In August 2016 we watched the lava in the evening. We queued for a loooong time, paid $10 per person, had only 10 minutes at... More
