A great place for memorable moments
A great place to celebrate my daughter's 1.1 marks on her Psychology degree. She picked the place and we enjoyed the lovely atmosphere, the food and just being there in nature. Food was delicious and fresh as homemade. Service was very friendly. The only thing we didn't understand was the charge to visit the gardens after having our dinner. We all enjoyed the experience of being there. A happy memorable moment for us.

    Good but overpriced.
We were a mixed family group of 21 people with 6 kids in primary school. We had a great space to ourselves, so the kids could move around after they were fed. The kids food came first, which was really good practice for happy kids and happier parents. The service was good, very helpful and not rushed. The food was good, the portions not massive, but probably just enough. However, the linguini didn't come as the menu advised. The roasted vegetable side dish was fried onion, fried mushroom and fried potato. I mentioned this to the server at the time, but didn't get an explanation nor an apology. The desserts were very small and not value for money. Overall the food was good, but expensive and not per menu.

    Romantic hide-away
We found the overnight experience to be very enjoyable. The food and service (with a particular shout out to Mary) was exceptional (we had dinner and brunch there) and James was a wonderful host throughout our stay. Our lodgings were rustic, spacious and comfortable with a mezzanine floor wood fire (that we enjoyed for some quiet down-time) adding to the charm. The bathroom is in need of a little 'love' and we would have liked a quieter water pump and there is a short walk from the lodgings to the restaurant, so bring suitable footwear. Overall, we would whole-heartedly recommend Burtown House to our friends and family.

I read some of the reviews here and asked myself, were we in the same location? 😎
My wife, her friend and myself booked a table at short notice for Sunday lunch. The menu was a one pager offering 2 or 3 course options. We found the choice more that adequate and the food innovative and excellent - local seasonal produce, cooked to perfection, with fresh herbs, spices with jus etc. We found the portions spot-on, presentation excellent and were pleased that we hadn’t ordered sides. We didn’t think the prices high for the quality and, certainly, have paid more for food of similar standard in Dublin, where I eat out regularly! The ambience of the Green Barn is super, with a lot of thought gone into the interior design, and the staff very welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We couldn’t fault our experience and thought that we got great value for money in today’s changed post-pandemic world. We would definitely recommend a walk around the extensive gardens after a meal. The Fennell Family have built a go-to destination here that has continued to evolve since our previous visits, a rural oasis just off the motorway and less than an hour from Dublin. Recommended.

Burtown house was booked by friends as a birthday treat for me. There was 4 in our party including my daughter. The decor and grounds are stunning and suggest lots of potential so was excited to try the cuisine.
Unfortunately the whole show ended up being a faulty tower episode without the comedy!
We sat outside and after a substantially long wait and my friend having to go up to ask for a server we were asked for drinks order.
Next my daughter discovered blue paint on her cream blazer. This was on the arm of the chair. We swapped chair and pointed it out to the waitress when she returned. She explained it might be from face painting the previous day at a wedding. She brought a silver mixing bowl of water and tea towel and offered it to me to try clean it at the table. Paint did not budge! I mentioned cleaning the chair it was on and we had put aside. Nothing was done! Food arrived minus one main course. When we asked about it she asked did we still want it which of course we did. The person still had to eat! Then 2 plates came out as mix up in kitchen. Alot of confusion between wait staff. White wine was warm. We witnessed a chef, obviously on trial being berated in public at a nearby area to our table. When on paying I mentioned to manager about jacket as no one came to the table, he said he was unaware and preceeded to debate with me the bill in which was also incorrect. I had to bring him to our table and show him the chair with wet paint to prove my point. He seemed doubtful even though he also got paint on his own hand and offered no apology. Eventually asked what he could do as I was becoming upset and I asked for the dry cleaning bill to be paid. I was asked for photos of the jacket and marks and actually was made feel like it was my daughters fault for getting paint on the jacket. As it turned out I did not return for the €15 bill to be paid as another trip would've had to be made and not worth the hassle.
I actually felt sorry for the staff due to exceptionally poor management and leadership.
While the young wait staff are doing their best, decent customer service and a pleasant manner is certainly lacking in their management in the Green Barn.

This trip was a disaster on many levels. I booked a midweek dinner, brunch and stay package from Wednesday to Friday, and paid in full online in advance. I emailed James with reservation times for the Green Barn the day before our arrival and he told me that they didn't serve dinner on Wednesday or Thursday, so we would need to reheat/eat something from the lunch menu in our room as our dinner. This was not mentioned at the time of booking. This food would be delivered on Wednesday afternoon about 5.30. (We had planned to arrive at 8pm). James promised to forward the menu, but didn’t. I found out via Instagram on Wednesday that the Green Barn was closed that day, so we couldn’t have had dinner in the restaurant or in our room. Anyway, we decided to eat at home before we left. I had planned and paid in advance for dinner in the restaurant and reheating the lunch menu food in a microwave in our room for the same price seemed like a less than satisfactory alternative.
After finding a decomposing mouse/rat in our room (see photo) on Wednesday night we were understandably not keen to eat dinner in our room on Thursday evening and neither had we still received any menu.
So what we actually ‘experienced’ was a stay and brunch package (€275 x 2 = €550) when I had paid €375 x 2 = €750. It has taken 4 months and many phone calls, Whatsapps and emails for me to receive the €200 refund for dinners charged which we could not have.
James' response to me letting him know that there was a dead rodent in our room was "In a trap I presume?". Unfortunately it wasn't. He offered to drop us over a bottle of wine to make up for it, and then didn't show up.
The final straw was when, after me contacting him many times about the €200 overcharge for the meals, I was offered either the €200 back, or a return visit, conflating the two separate issues.
I could go on, but suffice to say we won't go there again and neither should you.

We had a lovely lunch with family at this lovely restaurant. The restaurant itself was nice and the food was very good and well presented. Unfortunately the weather was not great so we did not get to walk around the grounds.

We were visiting from California.
We made an advance reservation to stay the final night of our Ireland Vacation at Burtown House & Gardens, which is located "just less than an hour's drive" outside of Dublin, before catching our flight home the next day. Great Decision!
What a Lovely, Private & Comfortable Setting!
When we arrived early evening, we met with Mary at their Green Barn Restaurant. Mary was exceptionally friendly, very welcoming & extremely helpful. Mary showed us to our lodging for the night - we were staying in the Studio Apartment, which turned out to be quite comfortable. It's a converted stable, so it is indeed "unique." We informed Mary that we needed to depart the next morning before they commenced breakfast service, so Mary immediately went back to the Restaurant and brought back to us Guiness Bread, Butter, Jam, Milk and Very Fresh Granola for our next morning.
After settling in at the Studio Apartment, we walked over to The Green Barn Restaurant, where we experienced a completely delightful dinner!
The Green Barn offers plenty of seating... a very helpful & friendly staff... excellent service... great menu... delightful decor... and best of all, Tasty Food! This is a Wonderful Restaurant... Highly Recommended!! We're going to miss The Emerald Isle... so Until Our Next Visit... Sláinte!!

Staff badly need to be trained. We weren’t offered drinks until we called someone. We waited an hour for our main course. The man at reception was very abrupt and unfriendly.

Beautiful place and food but service is diabolical
