Description:

The Guernsey Tapestry is a fantastic way to understand the complex history...

The Guernsey Tapestry is a fantastic way to understand the complex history of the islands. Ten panels (all stitched by locals to celebrate the Millenium) beautifully explain the events of each century. An easy to use and understand audio guide adds to the experience (available in English, French and German). A quote from the visitors book 'This was a wonderful way of telling history - I've never seen anything quite like it - don't miss it!'

My grandmother helped to stitch the fourth tapestry, so we wanted to see what she had sewn. The tapestries are lovely - really detailed - and they give a fabulous insight into Guernsey's history and to life on the island.

Although we had visited Guernsey once previously, we made our first visit to the Guernsey Tapestry museum in April. All I can say is that we missed out on our first visit by not going here! My expectations were fairly low, so I was blown away by the lovely tapestry panels, so exquisitely stitched, framed, and presented in a darkened... More

Millennium project of a series of 10 tapestries made by different areas of the island. As a designer I was very impressed by the clearly focused vision of the creators, both artistic and technical. Interestingly narrates aspects of the last 1000 years of the history of the island with a good audio guide to help. Better than I anticipated, and... More

I as glad I went to the tapestry. The craftework is amazing. It is also interesting to get a brief history of Guernsey through the audio guide. I thought the audio was a good length... not too long but tells you about the images depicted. Perhaps an "extra info" section on the audio would be nice if you want more... More

This is well worth a visit. The tapestries themselves are wonderful - so colourful. The audio commentary provides an interesting background, without being overwhelming.

The quality of the needlework is amazing particularly as it was a community project involving a lot of people who had never done such work before. The audio guide gave a really good insight into the way the Tapestry was made and the story that it tells. A great couple of hours visit. Also an excellent coffee bar on the... More

There are 10 tapestries skilfully embroidered by the parishes of Guernsey on the history of the island on display with a commentary. Worth seeing for the workmanship involved. Please check opening times/months as Guernsey is seasonal.

Excellent visit and super they way it is presented. The use of individual handheld devices to take you through each of the 10 tapestries was brill. Finished with a lovely cup of coffee and tea upstairs.

A relaxing place to visit. Each Parish has made a Tapestry. Each has an explanation about it. Very intricate work!

This was an experience that completely exceeded my expectation. The museum is in St Peter Port. The people from each part (we might call them parishes) of Guernsey have produced a tapestry conveying points of historical and cultural interest in their area. These are displayed together to tell the story of Guernsey. The Audio accompaniment helps one to comprehend the... More
