About
The Golden Hind in Brixham Harbour, is one of only two full sized replicas in the world of 16th century explorer and privateer Sir Francis Drake's famous ship. The Ship has been a feature of picturesque Brixham harbour for over fifty years, entertaining and educating thousands of visitors during this time - as well as being featured on many tv programmes and films. The Ship is open come rain or shine and is an all weather attraction with many indoor displays as well as wide open decks and on-board activities.

- Surinder K3 contributionsInteresting & unusal museumReplica of the ship used by Sir Francis Drake. Very interesting museum with details and exhibits of the everyday life of the ship. You can walk around the ship, with links to an online guided tour, although there's plenty of posters too with the same information.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten July 9, 2023
- Purpledoodle19 contributionsAn interesting museumDefinitely worth a visit even though it is in need of repair in places. Very interesting tour with lots of facts. The audio files did not work when you went below deck but there was plenty of informational to read around the ship. The displays and general condition of the ship were tired and need some care.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten August 5, 2023
- kimHayling Island, United Kingdom6 contributionsThe best sleepover ever!We stayed on board the ship for a whole night and honestly what an experience! The queens cabin with a huge bed and tele was very comfy and the bunk beds for the children were just so wonderful! Perfect for little pirate fans! If staying on board you get the whole ship to yourself to explore all night long. You haven’t experienced hide and seek until you’ve played it on a pirate boat! And the treasure hunt was the nicest of touches. The kids were absolutely made up with their treasure. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a slightly quirky sleepover. The only thing I will say is that the gang plank did squeak all night long so it may keep you up 🏴☠️Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten August 9, 2023
- GCT1978Maldon, United Kingdom92 contributionsNice little ship to walkthrough and learn somethingReally interesting little ship. Loads of information around and little quiz/stamp card for the children to complete. Some really interesting areas and well worth a visit. Only takes about an hour to complete but a good little fun place to visit in a great locationVisited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten August 10, 2023
- Emma BGloucester, United Kingdom33 contributionsGolden gem in Brixham HarbourLovely walk around this historical replica. The kids loved the treasure trail with stamps. And they learned things along the way. We only took about half hour with the kids but probably could of spent a good hour reading all the signs and taking all of it in. Very good experience and not too badly priced. Kids loved they got a diamond and certificate at the end too. Lady on entrance was very friendly and warming.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten August 19, 2023
- Marge247Aylesbury, United Kingdom103 contributionsA must-doThis is one of only two full size replicas of the Golden Hind. Well worth a visit for the fascinating history. Plenty to see and read about and also has bad 'dad jokes', a challenge to see how many little skeletons you can find and a 'how to find yee pirate name' to keep younger ones amused. Would recommend :-)Visited August 2023Written August 21, 2023
- Erin WCheltenham, United Kingdom150 contributionsNice thing to do with kids.Enjoyable and informative, my children enjoyed the pirate feel of the ship but there is also lots of information and interesting displays in a small space. Only down side is it is quite expensive given it is small and you are not on very long. Well worth doing once.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten August 24, 2023

Took roughly an hour 45 for 2 adults to explore, including reading all the information boards. ‘Walking the plank’ was a fun little addition.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten September 17, 2023

We drove over an hour to Brixham on 6th October. It was a really nice day and the website said the ship was open. We arrived around 11. am and the ship and ticket kiosk were closed. There was no sign up explaining why so we checked the website whilst on the quayside and it said the ship was open. We looked again after lunch, still closed and still no sign. Very disappointing.

I think it is. I was on Easter time but I think the beginning of September is the peak time for tourists so it shoul be open. Also it is on the bay, between lots of other small ships, so it is not going away :)

Hi is the ship accessable with a pushchair?
VicheartsJP
Stourbridge, UK152 contributions
Some of the ship is but there are steps down to the lower and upper desks which you wouldn't not be able to get the pushchair up and down so you might struggle to see much.
Hope this helps

How accessible is it for disabled people? Is there somewhere to secure a powered wheelchair for a child?

I don't know for certain but I would guess no. the ship has steep ladders, I think it would be extremely difficult. However the staff were very helpful so perhaps see if you can contact them via the website to ask the question. sorry I can't be more helpful.
Hi can we bring our dog with us ?
