My 'favorite' place

I love coming here and do so whenever I am able. I love the natural scenery and the feel of being at one with nature and the sea .

Parked up in a field I don't think this was the national trust car park but they were just asking for donations for a charity. A short walk down the hill on a new widened footpath takes you to a nice fairly large beach at low tide. You can also walk round the rocks to the river at certain times.

There are two beaches both amazing, very clean and safe. We visited the beautiful private beach open for locals / locals friends and family with a permit. This secluded cove is open to everyone on one day of the week during the season though not sure which day as we had a permit (family live locally) Shallow safe water, golden... More

There was a rare day of sunshine so we decided to visit this beach. It's signposted well and upon arriving found plenty of parking at £4.50 for the day. The walk down (and up) is fairly ok. My 5 year old navigated it well and with my 2 year old on my back it wasn't that strenuous. It's definitely not... More

Upon arriving there is ample parking in a field which will cost you £4.50 for the day. The walk down to the beach will take around 5-10 minutes down hill - back up may take a little longer. The beach was fairly quiet for a bank holiday which was nice. Not a massive beach but lovely all the same. Looking... More

Don't confuse Mothecombe beach itself with Coastguards and Wonwell which sit on the two sides of the Erme estuary and have Tripadvisor reviews elsewhere. Some of the photos above are of those others or the path nearby. Flete Estate own and manage all of it and have maintained and preserved all of the land and houses to the highest standards... More

We approached Mothecombe's private beach along the coast path from Noss Mayo, on a day when it was closed to the public and it was so peaceful. The path crosses the beach of white sand, backed by dunes. Amazingly, I recognised it from decades ago, when I came here with my family on weekend day trips. In the dunes, we... More

Plus points parking £2.50 (very reasonable) and the man on the gate was absolutely lovely (very friendly and charming). The drive from Salcombe/ Hope Cove area is really picturesque. Less positive aspects the main beach is not open to dogs at this time of the year and estuary is rather uninspiring. On the way back up from the beach we... More

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches in Devon but this is one of the quietest ones. Yes you do pay to park the car but £4 is not bad nearby it is £7 the cafe is OK and the main beach is private only open weekends and Wednesday. But there is access to a footpath through... More
