This is mostly ruins with some parts still relatively intact or renovated. One room does contact a wonderful hand-painted original wood ceiling. The grounds are beautiful and have a unique set of walls to terrace off the ground. The castle is located essentially next to the train station (but on the east side of the tracks), down a narrow driveway..... More

A really nice semi-ruin of historical interest in its own right, however our interest was primarily as Outlander fans - it was a filming site in Series One. This was one of the few sites we've visited where we were genuinely and warmly welcomed as fans and given lots of information about how the site was used in filming. Our... More

A trip round the castle and gardens is well worth a visit and very interesting and most enjoyable. The tearoom which was a beautiful little set up was run by two inexperienced, disinterested youngsters. When I first popped in to have a wee look, there were dirty dishes all over the back, the staff were not doing anything about them,... More

The castle is managed by Historice Scotland. The place is tidy and well maintained, the staff are chatty and freindly. The castle is mainly a ruin however there is a restored main room which gives a good feel of what the castle would have been like in its heyday. There is a tea room and whitst the menu is limited... We were completely alone at this castle so it was nice to have a stroll in the gardens. The castle itself isn't that impressive but the area is really nice.

The Castle had an Easter Event on for the kids where they had to find certain clues. All kids got a wee badge to say they had completed this activity. Pity it was not a real chocolate egg but no doubt HSE safety rules prevent this. I enjoyed the Castle and it,s interesting History.

Young lady at the reception extremely helpful - very interesting castle just wish I hadn't needed to run for the train as I would have liked to have spent more time exploring - well worth the visit

This was a nice place to visit by all means! I had a lovely tour with a friend and got a lot of history lessons. It you/I expect a castle to walk around in, then you'll be somewhat disappointed. Only the "new" bit is maintained that well. The area and the history of the castle make up for the lack... More
