On our tour of North Coast 500 we took a number of minor detours to take in the Munro s and corbetts. Not time to climb but to look at and wonder. These three destinations say it all about this lovely part of Scotland

It took three attempts to get to the summit due to bad weather, but it was well worth our efforts as the views all around are magnificent.

Took us a few hours to ascend as it was quite steep and I had to keep stopping to catch my breath. Probably have been easier if we hadn't gone 'off piste' to take a short cut. However there were fantastic views, described in our guide book as Ben Stack and the Thousand Lochans.

The map associated with TripAdvisor's entry for Ben Stack places the mountain in the village of Durness. It isn't. It is actually on the south shore of Loch Stack, about 24 miles south of Durness. Not a problem if you have a car, but a serious one of you don't!

A very convenient climb right by the side of the road. Not too taxing and in good weather would give good views! Eagles in the area too (and some low flying aircraft occasionally).

It's the highest mountain nearby, trails are great even for a moderately fit family.
