A nice place to see the Scottish Coastal Environment

The area is in the more remote parts of Scotland so a stop to visit the cave makes a lot of sense especially because it is free if you don't do the boat trip. The cave is convenient because it is on the main road everyone has to use.

A short decent down a pathway takes you to this huge natural cave. When you go inside it is a huge cavern with a short walkway to a waterfall that comes through the roof of the cave. You can climb up the wLkway to view the whole sea inlet and cross the road to view the waterfall from above. Almost... More

We went here twice - once to take the boat trip further into the cave and once after it had been raining overnight to see the very full waterfall effect. I would very much recommend taking the boat trip (£5 each) to see the inner cave as it's extremely interesting. We were very impressed that our guide, upon learning that... More

Interesting to see but limited - because of bad weather we could not go in very far. Pleasant wals in the surrounding area including the John Lennon memorial garden. Apparently he was a regular visitor on holiday as a child

A popular stopping point for this cave at the very top of Scotland. We were on the NC500 and this is a well used stopping point Lots of up and down walking but on good paths and stairways. The caves are interesting, We arrived late in the day and had the palce to ourselves, many visitors had built small cairns... More

Worth a look if you are passing. Free for the first chamber and you can pay £5 each to go into the other chambers.

I'm not a big fan of geology. A bunch of stones or a crevasse have no effect at all on my arousal levels. Smoo cave isn't even that big or spectacular from a noob's eye view. What makes the visit to this cave worthwhile from my perspective is the humour and fascinating storytelling of the ultimate driving force behind the... More

A popular stopping point for this cave at the very top of Scotland. We were on the NC500 and this is a well used stopping point before the anti-clockwise travellers head south. Lots of up and down walking but on reasonable paths. The caves are interesting, but you need to be lucky to catch a guided tour to see much... More

The caves are fairly easily accessible from the car park via a short cliff path down to the beach. The main chamber is impressively large and the footpaths and bridge make for a pleasant walk. A large number of stacked, "fun-size" stone sculptures were arranged around the cave entrance and a variety of birds swoop around for the benefit of... More
