This imposing old fort, which was incorporated into the Benedictine Abbey in 1876, is bisected by the Caledonian Canal, where to the north the canal enters the famous Loch Ness and into the village itself through a series of locks.

great views... comparable to many lakes seen throughout the appalachians ... nothing special or magical in the village just Tourists everywhere really...

Called in on way down the Great Glen to look at the locks on the Caledonian Canal. Good viewpoint to look down to see boats going through to Loch Ness. Plenty of pubs alongside if you can grab a seat. The chippy by the canal...More

A great palce to wander round or take a walking or cycle trail from loads of walking routes, lots of little shops and bars plus a very good chippy. Great views of the canal locks and moving swing bridge roadway well worth a stop off...More

Plenty going here with boat trips to the Loch plus cruisers and barges using the canal. Plenty go canal side pubs to sit and watch all the activities.

A very beautiful place at the south part of Loch Ness. Few lovely gift shops and pubs. Best part is the loch cruise (Ribb Ride). Best fun had in a long time, thanks Fort Augustus.

We travelled down here as an adhisor told us we could get close to the water. What an amazing place to visit!! The canal is beautiful, as is the views. The drive was lovely and you get to see the loch in its full glory....More

We watched the link between the Loch and the Canal where the boats have to go through a series of locks. Fascinating.
