The old East Church is just down Church Street from Hugh Miller's Cottage and museum, and is a delightful place. Now closed for regular worship, it is beautifully maintained and has an atmosphere of real peace. The history and the features of the building are...More

Great to see inside the old church and read the information about it's history. Some old graves going back to early 1700's. Strange (and a little creepy) feeling to think we were walking on same ground as people did hundreds of years ago.

This is a really interesting former church. The best part is probably the old graveyard - extremely atmospheric with crumbling stone monuments, many of them dating from 1700s. Inside it is quiet and peaceful with some information about the church and the area. On a...More

Wow what an interesting old church. Upstairs there were pews made from Jacobite painted wood. Very special In the grave yard we were shown an old grave stone with skull and cross bones. Had to be early 1600s. Worth a wander.

Just stumbled across the East Church when wandering through Cromarty. Now a redundant church it was full of history which you could sense. It is well worth a visit if you are in this area.

The church, which has not been used for worship since 1998, has been very well preserved by a charity I have never heard of but who clearly know their business. There is information on boards and in booklets in the church. It charts the history...More

Cromarty is a delightful little town anyway but the East Church was most unexpected. Disused now but one of the most evocative buildings of its type we have seen in terms of a lifestyle now gone. The original pews, all of different sizes and the...More
