It’s not difficult to see why the Isle of Lewis consistently receives so much acclaim.

From beaches and crystal clear waters that rival luxury tropical islands, to its rich history and stunning scenery, this remote and spectacular destination in the Outer Hebrides is the perfect venue for wonderful memories. Overlooking Stornoway harbour, the impressive gothic-revival style castle was built in the mid 1800’s by Sir James Matheson. Since then this beautiful building has also served as a hospital during WW2, a college, a school and now as an iconic wedding venue and luxurious holiday destination with Natural Retreats.

Serving delicious hand-prepared dishes as well as local delicacies, our Storehouse cafe is the perfect place to take a moment after your exploration of the Lews Castle grounds. Enjoy a frothy coffee or two from the comfort of our unique eatery, before tucking into our tasty specials of the day.

Pick up the perfect souvenir from your visit to our retail outlet 'The Outfitters', during your time at Lews Castle. From gorgeous gifts to luxury clothing and foodie treats, we've got you covered.

Restored Castle with free pubic access to main public rooms, soon to have luxury accommodation available. The newly opened museum attached to the castle is really interesting - everything well displayed. There are some Lewis chessmen on display with audio visual information about them. Small licensed cafe area with very limited food and drink selection available during our visit in... More

Lots of signs for the grounds but hard to find how to get to the castle. No signs to say if you can go in or not, daring to enter it's half building site half empty rooms for meetings and reception. What I did see was very nice . The grounds are beautiful and extensive, enjoy a good walk.

I actually live on the island and i recently went out to lunch there with a friend. We both ordered the quiche only to have a waitress come back about 15 mins later to tell us there's only one piece left, so my friend ordered the baked potato instead. That took another 15mins and was average at best. It was... More

Expensive, food is average, service is poor. Which is a pity, as the setting is great. If it was expensive, but the food excellent and the service outstanding, then i would go back every week. An Lanntair cafe in Stornoway is much better.

Great place, lots to see and do and learn. Always check opening times and days as you never know! Makes no sense to have a lovely new place and then for it to be closed on certain days. Great for little kids, dress up area so have your camera.

Lews Castle has until recently been left unused for a long period, so its revival as a hotel is to be welcomed. Hopefully, this will bring more visitors to the island and interest them in its history. The original building was constructed in mock-Gothic nineteenth century style by a Scot who had made his fortune establishing the Jardine-Matheson business in... More

Beautiful castle and grounds, however the building work currently preventing a full 360 of the castle. Understandably being carried out during non-peak season. The cafe inside serves high quality food, if a little pricey. And the museum is interesting, providing an insight to Island life.
