Day out in Rothesay
Jul. 2021 • Solo
Loved this house. Beautiful architecture with a fascinating insight of the history of the Stuart family. Tour guides in every room - all very knowledgeable and more than willing to answer questions. The one way system was easy to follow and made you feel very safe as you toured the house. Highly recommend if you are ever on Bute

Beautiful gothic house and vast grounds to explore. Lovely staff!! Very helpful and friendly, happy to share information but not too intrusive.

There is something very unique and mesmerising about Mount Stuart - an unforgettable day trip.

Just beautiful- but lots of midges! Well worth the trip and lots to see. Gorgeous shoreline and the house itself is out of this world!

Wonderful house and grounds
Jun. 2021
The house has some wonderful interiors. There is a reasonably priced café selling locally made cakes etc. The extensive grounds are amazing – many ancient trees, tree-lined footpaths down to the sea edge (and beach), a lovely rock garden, and a 5-acre area of the gardens that contains unusual specimens of botanic interest including plants from the southern hemisphere.

Big but not as big as I had imagined.

Big but not as big as I had imagined.
The guides stationed through the house were extremely knowledgeable about everything concerning the house and the Marquis of Bute
It was a refreshing change to visit a stately home sort of place where they were not looking to get more of your money. There was none of that here. A very modest cafe with refreshments at realistic prices. There was no gift shop trying to sell you something that you just cannot live without.
The house is well preserved, as are the objects and art on display.

A grand day out
May 2021 • Family
We were fortunate to be in the area on holiday on the first day of the house opening where we had prebooked tickets.

We were given an excellent map of rooms which we could visit along with the one way system we had to follow.

There were ten rooms open all with knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff. The history of the house is extremely well explained and includes some amazing details.

The tour takes about an hour as there are limits on number of people in each room, which was managed extremely well.

The house itself is absolutely stunning as are the vast gardens.

We spent around five hours here and could have easily have spent longer.

The tea room again is very well managed and stocks soup, sandwiches, cakes and ice creams as well as the usual drinks.

Toilet facilities were excellent.

If you are on the Isle of Bute or staying locally this place is a must see.

It truly is a great day out!

Stupendous experience
May 2021
What a stupendous place. Guides so knowledgeable , friendly and informative. Discovered links between Mount Stuart and Cardiff Castle/Bute Park Cardiff and learnt a lot of political and regal history. Every room a masterpiece of ingenuity and design - Do not visit Bute without visiting this magnificent house and gardens.

Beautiful gardens

Unfortunately we were only allowed to visit the gardens, it was a drizzley Monday afternoon and we enjoyed our visit.
