On of the most wonderful events of coming to Memphis, Tennessee is the Orpheum Theater because it has always given the touch of being on Broadway in many. many , forms of entertainment . The sound system is like no other and if you just visit the Orpheum you will know without question what it brings to Memphis , Tennessee and it has always carry the unquestionable culture character of the south and memphis with dignity of culture.

I went to see Frozen the Musical on a girls trip. The theater itself is absolutely beautiful, and the quality of the performances was top notch. However, the theater is not in a great part of town. I'd recommend parking in the garage nearest the theater to minimize the distance you have to walk, especially at night. Also, the air conditioning isn't great. We sat in the balcony & were actively sweating within the first 15 minutes of the show.

Second visit to Orpheum in Memphis. Is adjacent to famous Beale street. Just a couple of blocks from the Mississippi River. The theater is absolutely stunning. Restored to its original glory and being lost in a fire in the early 1900’s. Both visits have been to see Wicked. Blown away by both performances.
The upper levels are steep stairs for short legs. The seating is tight if you have a little weight on you. The staff is always above and beyond. The intermission is only 15 mins and gives you very little time to go with the long lines. Suggested you get that done prior to show. They do have drinks at intermission even in upper levels.
We parked right next door at the MLWG parking garage. You can reserve and pay ahead. You walk out from garage and the Orpheum is right next door. Felt safe in the area.

I went to see Elmo Live with my family. The facility is clean. Ushers were helpful before the show. We stayed after the show for photos with the characters. There were many people still in the building waiting for their photos to be taken. I needed to use the restroom and asked for directions. Staff at this point were rude and acted as though I was trying to do something prohibited just to use the bathroom before exiting the building.

Beautiful historic theatre. It’s smaller than some theaters and feels intimate. It’s well maintained and just lovely. Right near Beale Street downtown. We saw Pretty Woman which was quite good. .

We were in Memphis to see the Beach Boys. We had not been to the Orpheum in many years. It is a beautiful building and has been updated and well kept. Long ago the rows were so close together that it was difficult to even get down them, but that problem has been fixed. Great sound system, good drinks, friendly people, and close to several hotels. Many folks simply walked to the show and back to their hotel We would go to another show there!!

Great venue in beautiful historic theater for touring shows and he summer movie series, among other events. The theater itself is worth some time to explore. Most seats offer excellent viewing.

Saw Bonnie Raitt here. Excellent venue for a concert. Great acoustics. Beautiful old theatre. Staff was very helpful and concessions were readily available. You were able to have snacks and drinks in your seats. We walked there so unsure about parking availability. I would definitely recommend for a show.

Visited for the first and last time. Parked in a well lighted lot directly across the street and no less that 12 cars had windows smashed out and burglarized. Cops said it happens every night there. Won’t be back in Memphis anymore.

We didn't go in the building as it was closed. We wanted to see the stars in the sidewalk and take pictures of the outside and were doing so when a man approached us and acted like he was just passing by. He told us to be sure to go see the Elvis statue across the street because they were going to cover it up soon, which of course we didn't believe but we were planning to go over anyway. Then he followed us over there! He told me where to stand to take the best picture. If you stand there be aware that it places you in the best position for him and another of his cohorts to "trap" you between the handrail, a concrete wall and the two of them. They didn't act violent, but they did hit us up for money. We didn't give them any and all was well but it did feel a little threatening. Just be careful.

Which motel did you stay at within walking distance of Orpheum Theater? My 79 year old mother and i are coming but wasn't sure about where to stay. And are there elevators in the theater? She doesn't do stairs well. Thank you.

We unfortunately waited too long and ended up getting the back seats in the upper gallery. I'm wondering if I should just ask my money back 'cause I don't want to sit in a place where I can't see or hear anything. But if anyone has different thoughts, I'd love to hear them. FYI, I've never been to this theater before.

I think no. That is the risk you take being late. I don't understand why you did not know where your seats were located? There is a seating map online. It's a cool old theater saved from the wrecking ball and a Memphis treasure. Many seats are compromised and me too over 50 years of going there have encountered unfavorable obstructions or seating to far back. I'm sorry you had a bad time.

Is there a picture of the view from the upper gallery? Are the views obstructed?
Written May 16, 2019
Ahh! good question for blocked views it depends on how the stage is set for some concerts. Basically this occurred during one concert the speakers were STACKED, but of course the concert was so hyped NO ONE was sitting MOST of the time... JUST AN FYI... get your tickets EARLY:) Never had any issues with Musicals/Comedy shows just a "GOOD TIME:)"

I have Hamilton tickets and have 2 choices on where to sit: Row AA in the orchestra all the way against the wall or row E in the Right Balcony seats 5 and 7, which is best? Any view obstructions?
Written May 3, 2019
Any seat by the wall has some of the stage blocked. Take opera glasses!

Eat at BB King or Flying Fish or Texas de Brazil or Majestic. Night time be careful.
Written March 29, 2019
I would suggest Majestic Grill. Make sure you get reservations. They like for you to arrive 2 hours before your show begins at the Orpheum. It is a very good restaurant and is just across the street from the Orpheum.

Where is the best place to sit? Ihave seats in orchestra right row y seats 7,9,12 and 15. Are these great seats?

Is the comfort inn close & what are good restaurants nearby ? Thanks. Also we have orchestra seats does anyone know if they seat are slanted like a theater or are they flat where I am going to be having to struggle over others heads ? Thanks.

The comfort Inn is not that close but the Peabody is and the Sheraton but the seats are not real spacious and they are flat but you will be able to see if there is not a tall person in front of you

Hello! Let's take you questions in order.
1. The Comfort Inn is at 100 N Front St (one block west of Main) and the Orpheum is at 203 South Main. So, one block over and about 8 blocks South. It is about an 8 to 10 minute walk, but the Trolley (bus at the moment) runs ever 15 to 20 minutes.
2. There are a number of good restaurants within 2 to 3 block of the Orpheum, all depending on your food preferences and budget. I would suggest you type in "restaurants near the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis, TN", in google and then look at the options and where they are.
3. The Orpheum has sloped orchestra seating.
Hope this helps!

Would orchestra seats on Row T or mezzanine seats on row E be better?
Written March 21, 2015
Several people that I spoke with prefer the mezzanine seats instead of the orchestra seats, if you are seated away from the aisles in orchestra. I have had seats in the Mezzanine in the center and I thought they were fine.
