Only a true jazz junky would seek out W. C. Handy's home at the end of Beale Street next to the police station. A nice moment in history placed in a location that is accessible.

One would assume this would be a tour where you walk in, see his house, hear a bit about him and walk out. I was pleasantly surprised to get a history of Beale Street along with learning about W.C. Handy.

Lovely afternoon downtown so we thought we would checkout the house. Hours posted indicate it should be open, but the house was locked up with nobody to be found. We called the number posted and it just rang. Very disappointing.

The home had been moved here from its original location and we almost walked right past it rounding the corner onto Beale Street. It is tucked back in a parking area near the corner of 4th & Beale.

Appears to be $6 - providing you can get someone to show up. House has a history of displaying hours they don't honor.
