Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song. It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers. Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

This is a really nice tour and the staff conducting it were excellent. Just hearing the music gets you going. I wouldn't miss this attraction in Memphis.

The tours are on the hour at x:30, so plan for that. The tours are guided and the guides are knowledgeable and funny as hell. They give you plenty of time to look over the exhibits and tell you what is important. Sun and Stax...More

So much history here and the guides are so enthusiastic and knowledgable about the subject matter. Only a small premises and a short tour but well worth it. Also the free shuttle bus to Graceland is a bonus.

This was a fun tour. Our guide was very cute and sang/danced to all the songs. I would recommend this to others if you like the history of old rock and roll......Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, etc.....

It was so cool to be where so many legends got their start. It is pretty amazing that they let you sing into the microphone that Elvis used when he made his first recording. Love the recordings they played throughout the tour.

Very interesting especially after seeing Million Dollar Quartet in Las Vegas. We had a tour where more things were explained and we were also on the exact property where it all took place. The displays upstairs brought back memories.

I'm thinking the reasoning behind no children under 5 could be for several reasons. Sun Studios is extremely small. When we went it was very hard to move around in there. We had to wait for our tour to begin for a few... More

As far as I know, making a recording wasn't an option on the tour. You would probably have to reserve the studio at a different time of the day because it is still used by artists to record.

The coffee shop is on the ground floor and the actual studio can be accessed thru a a door from the outside. The office and memorabilia are on an upper floor which probably is not wheelchair accessible.
