Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song.

It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers.

Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

Fun Memphis and Rock and Roll History

It was fun to be in a place where rock and roll began. To stand in the place where a young Elvis sang is pretty neat!

We enjoyed visiting Sun Studios. There were some interesting displays and the audio was good. We felt it was worth the money.

If you're in Memphis, Sun Studios is a "must see." Our tour guide , Lydia, was very knowledgeable and spunky! She made every detail interesting! We had chocolate shakes afterwards, which were also really good. Do it all!

Our guide Lydia was enthusiastic and informative. Completely loved the visit to sun records. Everyone there seems to be passionate about the history of the place. Great experience.

He took a piece of time & brought it to life. A storyteller, he weaved the tale of Elvis, BB, Jerry Lewis..all propelled by Sam Phillips. You can take a pix w/orig microphone. Like traveling in a time warp. A bit challenging for those who can't traverse steps. Shows the orig studio, phonograph, record burner...lots of trinkets, cups, T shirts... More

This place is SO amazing ... simply for the DNA of Rock & Roll actually starting right there ... Everything else is simply a bonus The tour host (Lana?) was just sensational. Then I met Brooke and Ples ... and that's when I discovered the key to Sun Studio ... PASSION! Everyone there is upbeat and enthusiastic. These two characters... More

We finished off our backbeat mojo tour at Sun studio. Fabulous experience to have stood in the room that housed the million dollar quartet. A must for any music fan visiting Memphis. You will not be disappointed.

During my cross-country trip, I ventured into Memphis, Tennessee to see some of the attractions there. One of which was Sun Studio. This was the studio that Elvis Presley made his first recordings, beginning with "That's All Right Mama". The recording studio itself looks much like it did when Elvis recorded there. There is an upstairs exhibit of recording machines... More

This is by far the most emotionally charged tour I've been on. And I just came from Graceland! If you know the history of the birth of the blues and rock n roll you will absolutely be blown away by the vibe of this place. If you know nothing about the birth of American music in the South, you will... More
