We were told that Beale street is a must visit, we found Beale street to be rather seedy, with a nasty undercurrent, our visit was in the early afternoon had a look in the souvenir shops & bars, sat outside BB Kings bar, having a drink or two, people watching, there are certainly some characters in this part of town,We... I have to say we were really not impressed with Beale Street - coming from Nashville - lower Broad rocks with music all day and night - we were there from around 1:30 on saturday afternoon - went back to the hotel at 8 pm because we were bored. Some cool shops and nice you can drink on the street... More

We went to Beale Street about 10pm on a Thursday, so we weren't expecting a big crowd, and there wasn't one. We walked Beale just to take in the sights and sounds and see what was going on. Lots of good music in the small bars. There were several folks that looked kind of shady walking around, so it made... More

First trip to Memphis and had to do all the tourist attractions. Had looked up and picked a few. Ate at BBKings and Silkys the next nite. Great food and a little music. It was packed on Sunday nite and Monday was quiet. It is a must see but we are not late nite so didn't see much music. Had... More

Of course you can't visit Memphis without experiencing Beale Street. Most friends recommended we go there. "It is what it is". A few crazies, wall to wall bars, locals playing the Blues, and "ok" food. The pricing was fare and the bands were fine. It was a fun experience, glad we did it. We are an older couple but always... After driving for 12 hours, my wife and I were looking for a nice dinner that was unique to Memphis, we found it. Catherine & Mary. Fabulous meal and ambience. My wife and I shared the oysters, some mafalde pasta and the filet, of course! Everything was superb and definitely worth trying!

From a historical standpoint, the Beale Street music scene can't be beat! We ended up at The Tap Room 2 nights in a row, after brief visits to other bars. Both nights The Tap Room had outstanding blues bands - this hole-in-the wall joint took precedence for us over the more popular Rum Boogie Cafe and BB King's Blues Club.... More

In fairness, I visited mid week in February, so not the height of the tourist season, but, nevertheless, the street was mostly empty so not much of a party atmosphere. Locals warned me it is not a safe area but I did not have any problems.

I thought Beale St would be crazy but I think our midweek visit let us down. It was very quiet! However we had a great Thursday night at the Blues Hall seeing The Memphis Blues Masters who were AMAZING- seriously check them out- anyway- this venue was great but get there early for a seat. That said, you have to... More
