Visit starts with a film of the blues singers over the decades, including the rise of Elvis, Dolly Parton, Whitney Huston, their stage clothes, instruments, recording history. The rise of radio and television and the role these played in the artists promotion & ultilmate success.

On a mini vacation with my wife to Memphis we decided to visit Elmwood Cemetary. We spent about three hours walking around the cemetary. There are several historical markers at this cemetary and we could have spent another couple hours there.

Very worthwhile drive. We did not purchase the audio tour but did drive around the path. The grounds are beautiful and the Crepe Myrtles are MASSIVE. Tons of beautiful centuries old markers and grave sites. The history of yellow fever and civil war burials makes you feel close to the history. Awesome place to spend a half hour or so.

So I may have an obsession with cemeteries....it's a family thing! My husband and I were on our anniversary trip and passed by and stayed another night in Memphis just so I could see it longer! This place I unbelievable! The history alone will keep you here for days! Love love love this place

The cemetery is well-kept and there are headstones and mausoleums from every period of Memphis history. Take your time and take it in, you should not be disappointed. You can drive the tour, or get out and walk parts.

This is a great place to visit, get the CD and map (fee payable, but you can tour round for free) from the cottage then you won't miss the good bits, leave plenty of time at least 2 hours to get around, even more if you walk about the headstones.

We randomly stopped at Elmwood after seeing a sign on the highway for the historical site. I've noticed a lot of reviewers complaining that the cemetery is in a "poor" or "bad" part of Memphis. To those I say, I'm SURE this could be helped by the cemetery. Seriously, I thought my GPS was taking me on a wild goose... More

Please don't think this is morbid. The history in this cemetery is phenomenal! Respect for fallen soldiers is included as well. You can take your own tour walking or in your car (this cemetery is very large) for free or you can buy an audio tour or schedule a group tour. Elwood Cemetery is an important part of local history... More

Enjoyed the audio tour. It really help to bring the history of the area to life. Very nicely done, especially for only $10.
