The Historical Society has recorded a CD for your car that guides you through the cemetery, with stops at each section and notable headstone. The grounds are beautiful, with flowering trees and chirping robins. Headstones are every shape and size, with reverence paid to every member of the community, from moguls and slaves. The sections for soldiers from both sides... More

My wife and I were looking for some places to visit in Memphis besides Graceland. We read there was a cemetery in Memphis that might be a good place to check out. The cemetery was interesting especially having a map and a CD to help explain who is buried in this cemetery plus a little Memphis History. If you go... More

Lots of important (and many not-so-important) folks are hurried here. Many of the monuments are of the Victorian AND Edwardian era and have carved angels, trees cut off in their prime bloom of life, stone ivy, covered urns, b token pillars, etc. There are some more modern stones too but it is for the historic markers we go to cemeteries.

did not expect much but bought the cd for the self guided car tour for $10. OMG! This made the visit incredible. Excellent selection of significant graves with very good, in- depth background provided. Allow about an hour and a half. Very enriching and critical to understand history of Memphis

Hard to find ... tucked deep within the inner city of Memphis, but what an absolute jewel. Old, old cemetery with Civil War era headstones and crypts. It was magnificent. You can 'buy' a audio DVD that is accompanied by a map that thoroughly explains who the headstones belong to and the back story that makes them very interesting. Some... More

The old family gravesites are amazing. They should have a book or handout that tells you what the symbolism is. The child graves a a little sad. It is amazing what went into some of the family sites.
