    Lovely walk with great views
Worth walking from the pub at Penmaenpool to Barmouth. The views are lovely and lots of places to stop and have a picnic. Once in Barmouth there is an abundance of shops and eateries. You can then catch a train up to Pwllheli if you want and even get a little ferry over to Fairbourne. A great place for families.

    The Mawddach Trail
Lovely walk from Barmouth to Dolgellau. This is a long straight walk along old railway line so is better suited for cycling as very flat, we walked from Barmouth over the railway bridge and followed the sign. Glorious views of the estuary, about halfway along the route there is a circular woodland walk up the hillside which is well worth doing which returns you to the trail. 2/3rds of the way is the George lll pub. Arriving at Dolgellau picturesque Sports ground we made our way to the Stag Inn, this was a great pub, very friendly barman with good advice on beers, we relaxed ourselves in comfy armchairs and enjoyed a couple of beers before taking the bus back to Barmouth.

    Great flat walk
We did the whole of this trail over a two day period. The whole walk is flat and accessible with great views. To get the best from this walk, we would recommend purchasing Explore the Mawddach Trail by Jack and Graham O’Hanlon. We purchased the guide online and it was invaluable. The guide points out all of the interesting features, the history and has maps. The guide also shows all facilities available on the route.

This walk is a flat walk along the old railway line between Dolgellau and Barmouth. We walked on a Saturday and returned using the local bus, which was free on Saturday. ( It may be free service on Sunday too, not sure.) Both the bridges along the walk are great.

It is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

We only did a small section of this walk, but it was well kept and a good use of the old railway line route. We just walked as far as up to the George III Restaurant for refreshments as we had other places to go onto (in the car) later that day. I'm sure the remainder of the route is just as good as the section we did.

We started from the parking near recreation ground in Dolgellau. Route is flat and lots of spots on the way to Barmouth where you can stop and relax or have picnic.
We went there with our 7 years old son who managed this route really well ( that day we done 36km). Beautiful nature and scenery on the way. When we get to Barmouth we enjoyed beach and swim, before heading back to Dolgellau. Really good day out and we all enjoyed.

We rode on our bikes from Penmaenpool to Barmouth on the well marked Mawddach Trail. The route is along the mainly level old railway tracks so there was no difficulty in towing our dog in her "chariot". There are lovely viewsall along the way and the entry into Barmouth, over the estuary, on the railway viaduct just has to be experienced!

An excellent walk along the estuary with very good views and a variety of wildlife. As an old railway line it is flat and easily accommodating wheelchairs etc . An ideal easy "walk" for those with mobility problems. Having free parking and a good restaurant with George third adjacent makes it more attractive

Situated on the former Great Western Railway line, the Mawddach Trail runs from Dolgellau to Barmouth. It is a level trail which is both wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Affording views of the River Mawddach, the trail meanders along the river bank but, sometimes, ducks inland trough tree-lined avenues. On the trail there is the George III hotel, for drinks and refreshments, but there are also picnic tables and benches. Toilets are also available. It is a glorious walk (or cylce) to Barmouth; at the end crossing over the beautiful Mawddach Estuary on the magnificent Barmouth Toll Bridge.

Cycled from Dolgellau to Barmouth, ate fish and chips on the seafront and cycled back. A good day. The bike hire in Dolgellau was friendly and helpful and reasonably priced. The scenery is beautiful and the under twenty mile return trip was within the capabilities of this elderly fellow. It would be improved if the surface was tarmac rather than slate chip, you have to pay attention to where you're steering rather than looking around you.
I wouldn't be keen on walking the whole length, being an old railway line it doesn't have much variation in direction or view, much better by bike.

Myself and 11 year old son cycled the Mawddach Trail from Dolgellau to Barmouth and back, about 18 mile round trip and took us just over an hour each way. The trail is well marked and has some lovely views of the estuary and wildlife. The route is fairly even and easy to follow along the old railway line. We hadn't ridden much recently, so were a bit saddle sore on the way back. Barmouth is a nice little seaside town with pubs, shops and seaside attractions.
